Get Bryz a compass...

...because he appears to be lost in the woods again! A guy making the money he is making needs to come up with some of these saves. I'm trying not to kill him yet, but it is getting difficult. The team is not playing well in front of him lately, but he was supposed to be a goalie that will win games single handedly and carry the team through slumps. Hey, goalies are entitled to bad games, but he has already had his fair share so far this season.

I remember hearing a few people saying something to the effect that he's wasn't going to be that big of an upgrade over what they've had over the past few years. Except for maybe 2 games this year, he has been exactly that. After so many years of the fans and media calling for a true number 1 goalie, the management went out and got the best one that was available. The management, fans and maybe even the players expect the world of the guy - especially at 9yrs 51 million - from the start of the season. They are getting average....again. He's off his game but the team defense is horrible. 20th in GA/G

Maybe it's a slump. Maybe he isn't comfortable in a new system. Maybe he can't stop staring at Giroux's porn stash.....

SV% .902 = 43rd in the league (Bob - .877 - 64th)

GAA 2.75 =38th in the league ((Bob - 3.66 - 66th)

When one of those two get their game back even remotely, the Flyers (when healthy) will be right in the hunt till the end.

Maybe even Danny finds his stride.

It's hard to say I'm very disappointed in Bryzgalov, since I never bought into the hype that he was an elite goalie. I have hope, though.

That contract for a less than stellar 'tender makes me disappointed in the front office.

I wouldn't mind him for 3-4 years at $4 milion a year, but this contract makes Leinos look alright. At least Villes expires in 2017/18 season

can you say buy out... especially with the new cba coming and a chance to dump some bad ones... we've got a couple

We don't know for sure if a buyout clause will be part of the new CBA do we? But even if it is, Bryz has played what, 10 games? It may be a bit premature to talk about buying out his contract...

On the other hand I'd be happy if someone would take him out behind the barn and shoot him. I'm already sick of this guy. I didn't want him at all, much less for 9 fkng years at >$5mil per.

So many posters over the summer were saying "Yay we finally got a legit #1." All I could think was "maybe, but winning reg season games in Phoenix isn't at all like winning in Philly, where the expectations are to go deep in the POs every year. Maybe we better wait before anointing him the savior of the Flyers."

It's early, blahblahblah. At this rate Bob should get a chance to prove himself - and that's one bright spot in this mess.

I know the Flyers are rich, but would they really be willing to just throw away $45M dollars remaining on a contract and chalk it up to just a bad contract?? I have a hard time believing that. They're running a business. And he's tradeable... regardless of the NMC or contract, he's tradeable. After riding the pine for a few months, I'm sure he'd be willing to get moved somewhere.

Yup, Bob totally saved our bacon yesterday... start him until he falters.

Maybe Derek Morris is on to something...

@brelic

Maybe the Isles would take that contract on as backup insurance to an often injured DiPietro. It's not like they have enough goalies there already or anything.

LOL, good point! What's better? A 15 year contract to a goalie made of glass, or a 9 year deal with a guy who frequently gets lost in the woods?

It is WAY early for this kind of talk, but if there is a buy out clause and the Flyers believe Brygalov isn't working out but that Bob IS working out, they have two options: pay the entire contract or pay half (or whatever) of it and be done with it. If they truly think the contract was a mistake, why double down on it? Get rid of the player and use the cap space for someone else.

I agree. One of the reasons for the poor GAA for both goaltenders is due to the fact that the flyers have taken the most penalties in the NHL. Most of their penalties are stick-related and lazy penalties – hooking, tripping, interference. All avoidable penalties. Some of these penalties have often come at the most in opportune moments of a game, giving he goaltenders a poor shot at winning. The defensive coverage has been inconsistent. The d-pairs have changed in recent weeks because of injuries.

All of the above factors in the play and inconsistancy of play around the net.

before the chairman retires, i think yes this team might actually blow 45 million dollars to rid itself of a bad deal. the flyers have got to be in the top 5 in terms of revenue league wide...it would be a hit financially but at $7 bucks for a coke they'll make that up in a week ;)

From Tim P

WESTMINSTER, Calif. - Seems every time we talk to a Flyer we find out something new about their health status.

In recent weeks, we found that Matt Read definitely had a concussion at the start of November and missed three games; we found that while Chris Pronger had a virus last week, it was really his left knee that was keeping him out of the lineup.

And today, goalie Ilya Bryzgalov told us that he was fighting a bad cold last week, couldn't stop coughing, and still is fighting cold symptoms but expects to play this weekend.

"I was sick," he said today.

Bryz says he is focusing on Anaheim so we interpret that to mean he will start that game. How it goes could very well determine who plays Saturday at Phoenix.

Coach Peter Laviolette totally dismissed Bryzgalov's cold as a reason for his benching last week, saying while his goalie was sick, the bottom line is that the staff was rewarding Sergei Bobrovsky for some stellar relief work.

And I believe Lavy when he says that. And I also believe BOB should have been in net last week.

What I'm not sure of is how much Bryz's illness had to do with his poor play in the goal.

**

Jaromir Jagr says he feels really strong and will be back on Friday, as well.

We told you before about Jagr's acupuncture treatments but we learned today that they are accompanied by an injection of electric steam into the damaged muscle tissue at the point of the needle.

Jagr insists this steam injection is a critical difference in his acupuncture treatments over standard treatments.

I thought it was odd during the two b to b games that bob started that Bryzgalov was standing in the aisle rather than sitting on the bench. If the reason was to keep a distance from the rest of the team due to illness, then that completely makes sense.

Thus Bryz was not benched and Bob was the better choice to give the team a chance for the win.

And again, not sure why people thought that he is capable of that. Nothing in his career backs up this kind of a confidence.
