  1. 1. Caps or Cats? You make the call!

    • 1- Capitals in 4. Ovie is healthy, is a monster, and everyone else on the team become monsters too. Florida is skinned alive!
    • 2- Capitals in 5. Wsh takes it to Florida, Panthers grab a win, but find out real quick the playoffs and regular season are NOT the same.

    • 3- Capitals in 6. Each team dictates the pace, each come out with wins because of it....but the Caps don't need a full series to upset Mr. President Trophy Winners.
    • 4- Capitals in 7. Thrilling series that features everything, including the lowly WC seed ousting the highest point getters. Would Ovie and his Caps be on their way to Lord Stanley then??
      0
    • 5- Panthers in 4. Washington are back to being regular season competitors. Nothing more than an annoyance to the Cats.
    • 6- Panthers in 5. Capitals try but the Panthers laugh at their feeble attempts at greatness.
    • 7- Panthers in 6. Washington gives as good as they get, but Florida won't be denied, certainly not by these wild card dudes.
    • 8- Panthers in 7. Cats get a close call scare...Capitals looked like they would ruin their run, but Florida, with the dozen home ice fans behind them, pull out the distance series win!

Was thinking to myself that Washington was doing a good job restricting the Panthers to low percentage perimeter shots in the early going, but now, it seems Florida is abusing Vitek Vanacek.

3 goals on 7 shots, for a 3-1 score in favor of Florida..... Capitals better come up with some adjustments quickly or this game will horribly get away from them.

Panthers continue to own this game.
4-1 now on a beautiful goal manufactured by Sam Reinhart and Anton Lundell.

Still not a ton of shots by Florida, but man are they making them count.

Also, Capitals looking decidedly 'toothless' on the sandpaper front with no Tom Wilson on the ice.

Vitek is drowning out there!

No surprise they put Ilya “Kuryakin” Samsonov in for some 3rd period exercise.  Will he start next game?  Is this like asking how a coin will flip?

Regardless, the Caps have now surrendered their road ice advantage.  And they worked so hard for it, haven’t enjoyed it in the first round for a decade.

Now 3 of next 4 at home.  Ouch, in trouble.

Capitals looked way too passive in this game. I am used to seeing more thumbtacks out of them.
I know Wilson wasn't in the lineup, but still, they got other guys who could have brought the bile, but didn't.

Orlov? Ovechking? Hathaway? Ferhevary? Hello?? Anyone???

Washington's hit stats were lopsided in their favor, but I believe that was more due to them 'chasing the game' as opposed to them wearing any of the Panthers down.
Seemed it was Florida doing the wearing down on the ice and on the scoreboard.

Vitek with 5 goals given up in just 15 shots at one point...well, that can't happen.
Some were due to Vanecek just not stopping what he should have...others because the Panthers controlled the Washington defensive zone with impunity.

Caps n Cats just dropped the puck, and surprise, surprise, Washington turns to Ilya Samsonov in goal for Game 3.

While I can somewhat understand this, fact is, the Capitals offense has looked anything but lethal overall.
To that end, TJ Oshie, Alex Ovechkin, and Evgeni Kuznetsov have been put together to try and generate goals.

Ovie's presence in particular has been minimal.
That can't be the case if the Capitals hope to move on.

And not even a full 4 minutes in, and the Florida Panthers put one past Samsonov for a 1-0 lead.
The craze in the home crowd has certainly died down after the opening ceremonies.

Capitals seem intent on driving the net now.
Let's see if it pays off for them...Florida holding firm at the moment.

Good shot, but clear sight line for Sammy.  Glove just not quick enough.

Typical Caps home playoff game with the ticket payers frustrated in the end?

Some piss poor execution on the PP certainly won't help the Capitals' cause...

Announcers are saying the Panthers aren't giving the Washington PP guys much space, but in reality, looks to me like the Caps are hurting themselves with bad execution.

a checking monster as well!

Caps TV commentator Craig Laughlin just mentioned he’s had “four bone crushing checks” thus far.

Every bit a part of his game, as you well know.

I am sure Peter Laviolette would rather have him score more than hit more, but when Ovie decides he is going to run somebody down, they get run down...

And there ya go!

Florida messes around, gets called for a penalty at the tail end of their PP, and the Caps get a PP goal to even the score with just seconds left in the period.

Goal is going to either Ovechkin or Oshie...depending on who had last touch.

the Panthers have the market cornered on agitating pests! :shifty:

This raises a reasonable question:  why isn’t there a Florida Cockroaches sports franchise?  Somewhere…

Because we don't HAVE cockroaches in Florida.
More like hovering six legged armored personnel carrier Palmetto bugs :bigteeth:

Aaaand with that last insect themed post, Washington jumps out to the lead at 2-1.

Mantha with a drive and shot to the net, Johansson finishes it off on Bobrovsky's top shelf.

MaJo has had some bad moments since his return to Washington.  Still, he knows that success relies on the ability to put the BISCUIT in the BASKET even when it’s BOUNCIN’

Wow... Conor Sheary passes up a shot. He was right in Bobrovsky's grill and decided to.... look for someone further out and off to the side?
Bad decision.
Maybe he gets the goal, maybe Bob makes the save, but I think that was a shot  he NEEDED to take!
