At the risk of you know....

I submitted some articles to the Hockey Writers during the pandemic.

What the hell else was I going to do... my job requires me to go places and film things...that wasn't happening.

I didn't claim to be an insider or an analytics guru. My POV was that of a fan...I was told that they liked my samples and the humor I write with, but weren't looking for the everyman perspective.  Which is precisely what Rob Couch's articles read like. He's probably an okay bloke. But never have I ever chuckled or learned something from his pieces so when I see the by-line I usually just pass.  Not like there are sour grapes or anything 😃

That's actually pretty cool, @mojo1917, that you did that.
To be clear: I have NOTHING against fan writers, or even ACTUAL journalists.

But I DO revel in making fun of the obnoxious "I know everything, you DON'T" types, or the shameless self promoting types, who, when you actually get around to reading their "work", it is filled with self important stances, grammatical errors, obvious points, and poorly constructed paragraphs....all in the name of REAL news or scoops.
(Yawn) ;)

At the end of the day, anyone who puts up something that really makes me think (whether I agree or not with their take), and has something that is easy on the eyes,  is a GOOD writer. And that person doesn't need to have a degree in anything. Could just be a regular fan with a sharp eye for what is going on and knows how to convey that to the reader without being pompous.

I would take Bedard as well, BUT Michkov is very very good. It is quite possible that 5 years from now Michkov is the better player. The Russia thing is an issue, but he's a sure fire superstar in time.

More news today on Michkov:

Well cap space or not this is the lineup they should roll out game #1.

Van Floatdyke -Coots - Konecny

Cates - Hayes - Atkinson

Ratcliffe - Frost - Tippett

Deslaurier - Laughton - Brown

MacEwen

Provorov - DeAngelo

Sanheim- Risto

York - Braun

Seeler

Hart

Sandstrom

Sure certainly not going to beat much with it but it is the best cap wise and not to lose anyone off waivers.

Fk me another year of Sanheim / Ristolagging… I’d rather see what Sanheim / Provorov can do. IIRC they played together last season but not often enough to judge the pairing.

2nd choice would be York / Provorov. Same deal, had some games together last year but not enough to learn anything. York isn’t a legit top-pair D-man and he may never become one but this is the year to find out.

Ristolainen /  DeAngelo can take the Dumb and Dumber slot.

Yeah can't see too righties playing together... can you imagine how much worse it would be with those two together?

Watching Risto receive a pass on his backhand?

If you going to do that might as well put Risto and Braun together then...

🤦‍♂️

I have no idea who you're talking about.

I 2nd the motion...

I'm dreaming that JVR will be valuable in getting the Fletcherless Flyers to the cap floor when the new guy trades all the damaged 30 somethings for picks and prospects. I'm also dreaming that inflation goes back to zero and there is peace in the valley.

Watching that Canada Slovakia blow out at the World Juniors. Tanking for Bedard is going to make some team really happy. Anaheim also feeling pretty good about Mctavish I imagine.

Bedard is really looking like the hype was bang on in this case. He's already looking like he's a class above the standard 1st overall.

To his credit, he's looked like that for awhile now.  It's not like he's suddenly looking like it now.  Whatever level and at whatever time(playoffs, tourneys, etc), he produces and excels.  As I've said before, even though there is some pretty good talent in the next draft, there's just no decision to be made about who should be selected at #1.  Good players aren't great players.  Good players aren't game changers.  Bedard is both a great player and a game changer.  A generational talent.  He only just turned 17 in July.  And, there's very little negative scouting regarding his 5'9" size, if any at all.
