  1. 1. Which Florida Based Team Goes On To The East Finals?

    • 1-- Bolts in 4. Champs are feeling great, and run through the Cats like a bolt of lightning through a kitten!
      0
    • 2-- Bolts in 5. Panthers try, but are flustered once again by their cross state rivals.
      0
    • 3-- Bolts in 6. Rockin series that has a bit of everything, as the Lightning skate away winners.
    • 4-- Bolts in 7. Goes the distance, both teams are game, but TB is not done flexing their playoff muscle just yet
    • 5-- Cats in 4. Panthers rip away the Bolts' crown...with their heads still in it!
      0
    • 6-- Cats in 5. TB simply has no answers other than one stolen games, for the apparent new Beasts in the East.
    • 7-- Cats in 6. Florida has learned their lessons well and came more than ready to take a competitive series from TB
    • 8-- Cats in 7. Fantastic series that sees the end of the line for any three-peat talk, and possibly a new era in South East hockey!

Bolts settle down and Corey Perry, causing a bit of chaos in front of Bobrovsky, gets the deflection from around the crease to make it 1-0 Lightning with 6 minutes left in the 1st.

Nick Paul is back out on the bench, good to see that from a TB point of view.

Panthers FINALLY score on the PP after Brandon Hagel took a bad penalty (2 minutes cross checking looks like), that could have easily been a major 5 for boarding!

Physicality has picked up once again... Hagel, fresh out of the box, continues to hit...good to see. Don't need him getting timid even though he effed up with the cross check.
Colton doing some hitting as well.

Ben Chiarot continues to rock Lightning players though.

Vasy...well, all he is doing is continuing to make huge stops after giving up that PP goal.

If the Bolts lose this series, Brandon Hagel is going to feel even worse than he should for that egregious cross check into the boards.

Vasilevskiy with grand theft larceny on Reinhart. Should be 2-1 Panthers.

Hornqvist gets called on a bizarre play at the end of the period. Don't like that call one bit during the regular season much less a key game like this in Round 2. Champs can wrest back momentum in an instant.

Love that the game has picked up intensity.

Put on the foil for the 2nd.

Bolts start the 2nd on the PP.
They will look to take advantage of this opportunity to regain the lead, and set things their way once again.

@3 Palmateers
That's still quite a big jump from taking a bad penalty to the Bolts losing this series.
No doubt Hagel SHOULD feel bad...now...for that. Most definitely a brain fart move and dangerous on his part.
And the best way he can atone for that is to learn from it, and continue to play hard, but SMART.

If the Bolts end up losing this series it will be because of a LOT more than just Hagel taking a bad penalty which resulted in a Game 3 tie score early on.
If this was a G6 and that penalty led to a forced G7? Sure, I could see your point.

But for now, Bolts will win or lose together.

Vasy is a freakin' wall.

3-1 Lightning and if the Panthers lose this one they might as well start to make their Golf Reservations because it is all but over for them. I don't want to jinx it for the Lightning, but no way will the Panthers win 4 games in a row against this Lightning team.

End of 2, defending Champions with a 3-1 lead.
Panthers with a late PP, got some chances, couldn't get on past Vasilevskiy, who seems to have a force field around him since giving up that PP goal in the 1st.

Nick Paul, who got crunched earlier, is back out there, and playing well, but very much looks like he is laboring. Playing through pain no doubt...can he hold up for another 20 minutes? Hopefully not have to go beyond that this game....these boys play again tomorrow!

Victor Hedman and Erik Cernak were stand outs defensively in that period as well.... Brandon Hagel, even after taking the dumb, reckless penalty he did, still looks like he has maintained his 'edge' in the game, and not shrunk away and be timid.

Sasha Barkov.....announcers said  he is not taking advantage of the full compliment of players on the PP. I didn't catch that about him, but if so, then he is making the Bolts' collective jobs that much easier...

Panthers and Bennett try to get the Lightning to retaliate and get a penalty. Despearte times bring out desperate measures.

Yep. For sure.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, this isn't the Bolts' first rodeo.
They know what Florida is trying to do. They are gonna keep their wits about them.

It is a large jump for sure hence... "if".  One little thing can turn a series around. 5-on-3 comes to mind. :)

Hagel's penalty was the one that broke the Oh-for streak. As Keith Jones quipped..."they (Florida) were mad".  And, they were. Every series can turn on ANYTHING. A last second goal, a bad penalty that riles up the other team.  A fight. A post. Anything. Hagel was stupid to offer up one of those potential moments whether it came back to bite them, or not.

About to be 3-0 series lead for Bolts. OVER.  Florida better have another comeback in them or this series is donezo.

They surely aren't playing those foolish games. The Lightning look like they are on a mission after a tough first series.

RE: NHL 2nd round playoff series

Sirs:  We bring to your attention that your current opponent, the Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey Club, are not the Washington Capitals Hockey Club which you defeated in the previous playoff round.

In case you were unaware of this change in opposition between playoff rounds, we recommend raised awareness on your parts, and possibly changes in game strategy and tactics.

You know, people have said for years that the President's Trophy is a curse.
I always thought that was BS.... but man, maybe there IS something to that.

Bolts themselves certainly know that firsthand...

Unless Florida comes back in series as they have in games, this is an embarrassing exit for the league's "top" team.

Presidents' Trophy is a burden especially for a team that's never carried it before or had any kind of playoff success. I honestly thought they would've lost to the Caps if not for Tom Wilson's injury.

Tampa vs. Carolina with Raanta in net sounds like another sweep or 5-gamer for the Bolts.

I can think of no other sport where the nature of the game is as different in normal games and important games, as ice hockey.

I believe it has to do with intensity translating into increased physical contact.  I don’t see football or soccer, other true contact sports, being much different in this regard come playoffs or special competitions.  And other sports like baseball, tennis, golf, and even basketball, have much less if any heavy physical contact.

I’d pick tennis as 2nd place on an entirely different principle.  All the el primo players over the decades prepare differently for the major tournaments.  Just psyched so differently than for lesser events.
