BC is one of the most expensive but yet one of the richest province in Canada yet we only have one NHL teams while if you recall NHL history BC had another NHL team called Victoria Cougars which DID win Stanley cup long time ago ( check Stanley cup winners from the past ) . Last two teams added to NHL were U.S teams . Why not add another Canadian team and make it from Vancouver island since BC only has one team in the whole province ?? Ontario has two teams , Alberta has two teams why not BC with such a high population?

Welcome to the forum.

pretty sure Bettman would put a team in Guam before Canada got another. They're already hockey fans, we need to make new ones where nobody gives a crap about the sport. Let's put a 2nd team in Arizona.

The Cougars were a WCHL team that beat the NHL Champion Canadiens in 1925.

The problem I see is population size for many of these cities in Canada. The 7 teams currently in the NHL hold 6 out of the top 7 top population sizes in Canada. Winnipeg comes in 8th behind Mississauga. Mississauga is way too close to Toronto for them to have an NHL team. For British Columbia there is the city of Surrey which is also in close proximity to Vancouver so that probably would not work very well at all. Surrey has over 550 thousand in population, but is less than an hour away from Vancouver.  There are also a few cities in Ontario that are in close proximity to Toronto and Ottawa that have larger populations, but would not work because they are already way to close to the other NHL cities. Then you have Quebec which already had a team in the past and if any city in Canada would get a team it would probably be them. There is also Halifax, but that city probably does not have enough of a population to make it happen.

Yup it's all about population size of that city and surrounding area...which in Canada all the best places are all taken except for Quebec city...compare that to America and you'll notice that there are tons of places down there with population sizes that will make way more money than anywhere not already taken in Canada...that's why Seattle gets a team and not Surrey...market potential means everything because all most owners care about is making the most money possible...
