flyerrod
Might want to edit the date in your title. That said, I think Errson does get the start after his shut out. I would also like to see the same lines together 2 games in a row …….

Of course, at my stage of life, many things are beyond me. That said, I may not watch. I don't want to jinx them. That may explain their win last night.

CoachX
I recently retired and have moved to the Stl area. I may actually watch. I wonder if its possible for me to like and root for a second team?

We will forgive your trespass. That said, I've lived in FL for 42 years and find it hard to get emotionally attached to Tampa Bay or my backyard Panthers, despite their excellence. I didn't grow up with them.

Maybe bc the Blues lost 3 of their last 4 while the Flyers just shutout the Bruins in Boston? Frankly I have no idea what the odds makers look at in the NHL.

Very true. I am a born n raised gal from Clearwater, Florida.... grew up with the Bolts since 94 for me...and the Rays in baseball since '98....and jumped a bit on the Buc's bandwagon in 02 when they won a Super Bowl (though I am not a true NFL fan). I now live, and have lived in Minneapolis-St. Paul for the last 17 years and have adopted the local Minnesota baseball and hockey teams as my own, BUT, in head to head contests (including Bucs vs Vikings), there is NO QUESTION I root Tampa Bay all the way. Even as a season ticket holder for the Wild some seasons ago, I'd show up in our suites donning Lightning gear whenever the Bolts came to town...despite the looks of disdain I got from my neighbor STH around me. The only time I'd wear anything other than Wild green. Same with Rays visiting the Twins. So yea...I certainly understand the whole 'in your DNA' thing.
TropicalFruitGirl26
Not a fantastic period by the Flyers, but then again, the Blues are a struggling bunch in recent games and Philadelphia does exit the first frame with the 1-0 and Ersson has, at least, looked competent so far. So there is that. To answer @Howie58's question on why the Flyers are favored... I don't suggest that I know how oddsmakers do stuff, but generally speaking, if a team plays hard enough, without getting the results, then they get to play at home with last change, and facing a road team like St. Louis who not only has struggled, but have even looked frustrated IN GAME against a few of their opponents, then yea, they set the bar so that Philadelphia looks attractive. Oddsmakers win regardless. If the Flyers win as favored, then the people who put money on them get their bit, but chances are a large portion of better went with St. Louis because "the Blues can't possibly lose to the Flyers" and that line was set to make them more money (which the oddsmakers knew, and raked in on a Blues loss). On the other hand, the Flyers lose, and perhaps more people than expected DID bet on the Flyers, so the oddsmakers rake in that money. The least favorable spot for oddsmakers would be if they set the bar so that Flyers will win, but people bet against that anyways for the bigger money Blues as underdogs....and the Blues actually win. But even then, there are other parameters set by oddsmakers (goal spreads for instance) where they make up for any money paid out to the winning Blues gamblers. Bottom line: The bookers win. That's their job. They do it well. And when all else fails...and they got a welsher somewhere, they send Big Guido to collect Not that I'd know anything about that
TropicalFruitGirl26
Scott Hartnell doing intermission analysis.....does a pretty good job. Unfortunately, they need to cushion the flooring around his podium as he has a tendency to trip when he gets up to get his coffee
TropicalFruitGirl26
Great penalty kill by the Flyers. Kept the Blues to the perimeter, whittling away their PP time, then, when St. L got down low enough for some decent shots, Ersson made the saves, finish off the penalty, then even generate some scoring chances of their own heading the other way. TropicalFruitGirl26
Man...is Morgan Frost snake bit or what?? Down low, about as good a shot at getting his first goal of the season...Binnington down and out, he had some room (albeit, he was very low near the net), but no dice. TropicalFruitGirl26
Flyers certainly look like the faster team, but once again, as I've seen before....when bogged down in the half court game by a bigger squad like the Blues, they have trouble maintaining the zone. TropicalFruitGirl26
Well now... 1-0 lead is good n all for this Philly group, even taking that midway through the 3rd. But without adding on to that lead, all it takes is a single chance and shot for the Blues and it is a new game. Blues just did that. 1-1 with 9:40 left in the 3rd. Flyers need a quick response, otherwise all their hard work will go up in smoke as the Blues gain more confidence.
TropicalFruitGirl26
Not a quick response to the Blues goal, but Philly did get a late goal in the period, retake the lead, and now look to whittle away the final 46 seconds of the game for the W. TropicalFruitGirl26
Oh wow.... Sloppy Flyers trying to clear the puck from the zone, St. Louis with a great, great chance.....but Ersson does his Vasilevskiy impression, and shuts down all lanes down low for the save. 12 seconds left. Howie58
Am I happy we got two points? Yes. Was it fun to watch? No. What the hell is going on with Tippett and others? Hartnell noted they aren't moving off the transition as they did last year. They are better blocking shots than taking them. As I've said before, it's like a return to the Hakstol Era. Our scorers have regressed big time.
GratefulFlyers
TEAM D along with Ersson have been excellent the last few games; it accounts for the wins. Really good defense around the net, quick sticks in the lanes, etc. it's all working well. The offense not so much. Tortorella said after the game the missed shots were "an epidemic." It does seem like it's every forward. Still an impressive win imho. Ersson made timely saves and he had a lot of help. Sanheim/Ristolainen is a surprisingly effective pair. Sanheim is really skating well - best I've seen him play - and Ristolainen looks ... dare I say it? ... good. He does.
