Why does this braindead moron write about goaltending as if it is just some random uncontrollable event like the weather that an organization has no influence over?

The Flyers chose and signed these goaltenders.

They did but lets not forget this was all brought about by a very poor decision one Mr. Hart made several years ago ...(yes I know ... innocent until proven guilty ..but the damage has been done)

Now mind you ....  the Sharks did not give up a tremendous amount to obtain Askarov. The Sharks acquired Askarov, Nolan Burke, and a 2025 3rd round pick from the Preds for Magnus Chroma, David Edstrom, and a 2025 1st round pick.

Supposedly the Flyers were in the rumor mill for Askarov, but some have speculated they didn't pull the trigger because the Flyers top brass believed in Errson which is just dumb.  Askarov is heralded as the top Goalie prospect in the NHL.  If there is an opportunity to get him, you go after him.  Especially when Nash. extended Saros's contract.  In addition the Flyers made a commitment to Fedotov.

Again supposedly the Preds asking price was too much for the Flyers .... I would love to know what the ask was .......

Askarov will be head and shoulders better than what the Flyers currently have. Again it seems like the Flyers are trying to outsmart everyone.   I will not be surprised one bit if the Sharks are a legit contender before the Flyers .......

So yes ... you are right ....the Flyers "chose" the bed they made with Errson / Fedotov / Koslov.  The Flyers should have acquired Askarov and jettisoned one of the others .....

I'm pretty certain that it was Ersson and a non-roster player plus a draft pick.

I get it. Having someone like Askarov in the system would be off the chart. At the same time, with Zavragin in the system, it's certainly an Askarov-esque prospect that works give the club flexibility in terms of goalie development and trade material.

I had a post detailing all of the many and various "reasons" they won't move on from any of them.

Watch a RW be the BPA at the draft...

With his shutout last night, Ersson’s SV % has climbed to .888% :hocky:

Oh yipee ... against the the 2nd worst scoring team in the league (sarcasm font)

What does Ersson want a Gold medal ???  (again sarcasm font)

Only the Preds have scored less goals this year ........

I think we all knew Kolosov was never ready for regular NHL play. And, for that matter, may never.

Is Fedotov "figuring it out"?

Ersson seems unfortunately injury prone and tends to give up that extra goal like on the Island tonight. That can affect a GAA. The SV% is another thing.

If Fedotov turns into Tim Thomas, Briere is a genius. If he's Mikko Koskinen, not so much.

I suspect the truth is in between.

@radoran

the goal to Barzal was ill timed but understandable I think.
13 had Horvat driving the far post, so 33 couldn’t come out very far to take away the angle, I thought that goal was a good play off the rush by good players.

but the point about the extra goal is well made and taken

Not faulting him on it, per se, but it is the difference between a 2.X0 and a 3.X0 GAA.

And, again, it's more the .878 I'm looking at in this scenario.

It's perfectly fine if none of the three netminders currently on the roster are "the answer."

Maybe Fedetov is the new Roman Cecmanek. I think he was around 28 when we signed him. He was real good for a few years until he got fed up with his crappy defensemen and criticized them on the ice.

Wasn't the defensemen he was mad at (and the Flyers had a legit good defense when Cechmanek was goalie). It was a series against Ottawa and the Flyers couldn't buy a goal that he lost his crap. He was notoriously tough, but when said goalie was sporting a sub 2 gaa and .920 save percentage, you can throw your teammates under the bus if they aren't doing their part.

Yes , I think you are right. It switches back and forth over the years. I’m too traumatized after years of suffering to recall , but it usually  goes from cant buy a goal to the defense is horrible. The most consistent thing was piss poor goaltending with a few solid years here and there. I do remember Cecmanek having a few good years and Esche having one .I do recall there  was a game a few years ago when Sanheim and Meyers were twin turnstiles and both were a - 5.

Specifically, the team set an NHL record for futility in a five game series and scored two goals. They also won a game.

The goal scorers? Jeremy Roenick? Mark Recchi? Simon Gagne? Keith Primeau?

No. Ruslan Fedotenko and Dan McGillis.

Cechmanek put up 1.86/.936 over four games, won a game, and got the blame for the team quitting on Barber. That core would go on to the Conference Final two years later, lose, and then fade into memory after the lockout.

Good times.
