Game 43: Anaheim Ducks at Philadelphia Flyers; 1/11/25 @ 7 PM, NBCSP, ESPN+

Greetings:

Philadelphia is favored (-175) and has taken four of the last five against ANA.

The teams are similar statistically; their D is marginally better, our O is a bit better:

We beat them on December 28th, 3-1 in Anaheim.  But they have gone 5-4-1 over the last 10 while we are 3-6-1.  On paper, this is our easiest opponent over the last few weeks.  It shouldn't be a trap game, and after the Dallas game, I'd expect a motivated squad.

Hoping for A goalie.

Fixed it for ya. At this point I am guessing they are going to alternate between Errson and Fedotov if Errson can stay healthy. Kolosov should be in the A at this point.

I wonder which goalie with an over .900 save percentage they're going to use.  Oh yeah, and let's hold onto that pipe dream, Danny Boy, that you're going to get a 1st for Laughton. Why not just wait until he gets hurt. Dolts. All of them. Good Danny boy, listening to Homer, Clarkie and Comcast. #LipstickOnAPigFranchiseCulture

Farabee is a healthy scratch. First in 216 games. Well, he is underperforming. Let's hear it for accountability.

Philly crowd with some impressive F**K You Cutter chants every time the kid takes a shift.

I can't wait to see what they get for Farabee  (Frost too,,and when they finally get a grip on reality, Laughton). I'm so happy that the highlight for the team for this year is going to be "We went to the game, and got to boo Cutter". Then, of course, the team can't let the fanbase that attended the game and spent their money, use their signs..because they're more concerned about being PC, than they are putting a good hockey team on the ice. #FlyersCulture

haha what a twist of fate Drysdale goes 26 games w/out a goal and pots a beauty on the PP. Driving the net against his ex-teammates that had to feel good. Great feed from TK - Flyers with good speed in transition looking good -  reminded me of last year.

pretty scrappy game...looks to me like they're meeting expectations...

Everybody does realize that since returning from injury, Drysdale has been playing at an elite level and that his advanced stats are third best in the league. So, there is definitely something there. Let's also not forget that he's never been asked to play defense until he arrived to Philadelphia, so he's a work in progress. There's about four years of development that they need to catch up on.

Well, a good performance against a third-tier team. They showed some pep. Let's see what they do against the defending Stanley Cup champ.

Flyers' fans got their money's worth tonight...

scrums and scraps, speed in transition, Ersson gets the shutout ... lot to like about this one after the DUD against the Stars

Shocked that there was no pushback from William Gauthier. Wonder if the Ducks told him not to engage or if he just lacks testicular fortitude.

He had a bunch of giveaways  and mistakes against Toronto and Dallas that directly led to goals. The last word I would use to describe him is elite.

They took em outta people’s hands? Say it ain’t so. Random signs laying around I can maybe understand. But what’s worse look the signs or the staff confiscating them? Guess it depends on the sign….no point in being dicks about it….on both sides imho.

In any case Gauthier got the treatment and the Flyers whipped his team pretty bad so I guess it’s all good.

Totally agree.  He's an awful plus/minus player & even though still young has a history of injuries.  Not close to anything resembling elite status.

I’m surprised William didn’t even chirp back at the Flyers. In both games against the Ducks TK was chirping Gauthier pretty goood and the kid looked like he wanted to 💩 himself.

The only pushback I saw from him was prior to a faceoff when he pushed Michkov but Michkov shut that down quickly with a two handed slash to William’s shins.

Torts' post-game presser echoed what I said earlier. He dissed the reporters (as usual) for the hullabaloo over Gauthier. He hoped and wished the atmosphere and engagement would be present for what he called a "meaningful" game such as a playoff game or a top-tier team. I'm glad some players ended their droughts. But this was Anaheim.

By the way, I don't know all the details about Gauthier and his decision. But I could understand why some youngsters might not want Philly given our play over the last 20 years.

I hate to be a killjoy, but the recent games against Dallas and TO are probably better indicators of where this squad is than last night.

You are not being a kill joy, you are being realistic. We have suffered with mediocrity for decades and the days of winning with less talent by out working the other team are long over ,we need talent. We truly have to bottom out and hit on our picks in order to build the proper team and have a legit shot at the cup. All you have to do is look at the prospects that Chicago, Seattle, Anaheim and San Jose have as compared to us and we are way behind in our rebuild in terms of blue chip prospects. SJ got Cellebrini and Dickinson in one draft,  a top line center and a first pair dman potentially. If we can be bad enough this year ,we can get a real good player with the 5th or 6th pick and we should  also package our other two first round picks to move up . Best case scenario is landing a top center and a  good defenseman Teams like NJ were as bad as us five years ago and look at them now. They built a very good team pretty quickly, while we have not.

All those teams are willing to do what the Flyers refuse to do - strip things back and build from scratch. I heard Briere's excuse about a "competitive" rebuild, but that's just more mediocrity for this franchise. I read the perfect line about the game and the Flyers rebuild. They're only two points better than a bad Anaheim team that has an incredible pipeline of prospects on the way. That's how "incredible" the "competitive" rebuild has been.

And I don't buy the "well if you tank and bottom out, it's hard to get out of that and start winning." That's a bs line. I get that there are the Buffalo Sabres of the world, but they're the anomaly. Even Utah is turning it around (but they only did so after moving). Is Briere that unconfident in his ability to rebuild the franchise? A good GM wouldn't hesitate on tearing back the coin, which leads me to believe that the senior advisors ate heavily involved in matters.

It's a mess to watch this play out and hear the same thing over and over and over again.

if we do tank, it will take 20 plus years, you are saying you have the patience for that when you are complaining about losing now?
