radoran
That's apparently where we are in the NHL these days. In some cases (the Matt Cooke article over in the Pens forum for example) it seems to have had an impact. We'll see how the parade to the press box this playoffs affects players. But I do think it is interesting when you look at the history of "sending messages."Steve Downie got 20 games for slamming Dean McAmmond. This was to send a message to the young player who had a "reputation" (in preseason of his first NHL year) and also to the Flyers to get their act together. When Jesse Boulerice got hit with another 25 games for his stick to the mouth of Kesler later that year, it was made publicly clear that this was a special message to the Flyers because of the way they were letting their players play.Well, the Pens just had three players suspended IN THE SAME GAME - two for doing things quite close to what Downie and Boulerice did.20 + 25 for the Pens?1 + 1 + 4.Message sent. flyerrod
What it does is gives Pissburgh only 2 lines, Malkin is going to see more Cooter than he has ever wanted too......
canoli
Well, the Pens just had three players suspended IN THE SAME GAME - two for doing things quite close to what Downie and Boulerice did.20 + 25 for the Pens?1 + 1 + 4.Well...factoring in the favoritism for the Pens and the bias against the Flyers - of course we all know both of those are myths but they are mighty stubborn ones that don't go away - so factoring in that, the numbers seem about right. TedZep
I am confused about the message sent. Hopefully Aziz will help a brother out and demonstrate how this apparent favoritism to the Penguins is all in our heads.Neal received not one but TWO warnings, committed two separate infractions and still only got one game. They could have at least fined him the measly $2500 for the hit on Couturier to pretend that they care about player safety. How many warnings did Downy and Boulerice get? doom88
You're absolutely right. Those 20+ were ridiculous and Neal didn't get nearly enough.
TedZep
Don't worry, they will make up for it with Rinaldo.
