Fair article on Bryzgalov? You decide

Wanna see a center "standing around"?

Check out Briere on Zajac's goal: http://video.nhl.com...ocenter/console

Thanks for the link - not! :)

Look how pissed Gus is after that goal. The camera is only on him for a second but you can clearly see him throw up his hands right at Briere (and Simmonds too, who did exactly nothing on that play just like Briere).

[edit: wow - a rookie D-man giving the "WTF?" hand signal to a veteran forward right on the ice - in front of the home crowd no less. That's how bad things got last night]

It's amazing, considering what's at stake, how bad our forwards played... to just stand and watch the opposition run circles around them in our zone.

It's like FC says about Bryzgalov, when Bryzgalov has stunk up the joint, it's almost like you have to be trying to suck that much.

Bryz's biggest problems are as follows..

He stays too far back in the net and does not come out and challange shooters and cut down the angle, he does not make himslef big in the net, he kinda slouches down and gives up goals that would be stopped by standing up more. Also by staying too deep in the net he has lots of shots trickle off him into the net.

He loses focus when there is action behind the net, and gets beat off these little cheap scrambles in front, because most of the time he has no clue where the puck is.

His puck handling skills are horrible

I think he is not mentally strong enough to handle playing in Philly, he has no fire in him at all

He is no way near worth the $$ we paid him, and if we can buy him out when theres a new CBA, I would do it. If we do win a cup in wont be due to Bryz, it will be in spite of him. He is no better than Leighton or Boosh

Good post Ron, thought it deserved repeating :)

That stuff you list is true way too often, way too much of the time. When he's good he does challenge shooters, he tracks pucks in close (and pounces on them before they go in). He's got a competitive fire in him and seems to be mentally sound, aware, focused, etc. He never is good at handling the puck but when he's on his game he doesn't try.

The problem is we rarely get a "Good Bryzgalov" game, one without soft goals. I know Rad will disagree because "the numbers" don't bear this out but Bryzgalov is a weak-ass goaltender, nowhere near worth the money he's getting and not a bit better than Brian Boucher. To me Bryzgalov is just a (much) higher-paid Bob.

What in the world was Briere doing...?
