Would you trade van Riemsdyk to Ottawa for Karlsson's re-signing rights, and let Matt Carle walk?

I know it's a longshot, but Alfredsson isn't getting any younger, and some have speculated he may even retire. So the Sens may be in need of a winger.

No F-ING way does Ottawa let Karlsson go. Also, I dont think there is any way that Nashville lets both Weber and Suter go, so who ever stays, the other will most likely end up in Detroit. Maybe it's about time we start thinking about developing our own talent?

I do believe he stressed the HYPOTHETICAL in his post....I would move JVR AND a 1st Round Pick for Karlsson. That said, Ottawa still would not pull the trigger on that deal unless they knew they could not reach an agreement with Karlsson.

Well, perhaps I was being UN funny. Still, RFA status and the player's unequivocal track record almost guarantee that a deal will be reached. If not, it means Ottawa is not prepared to pay market value for its best player. I think this stretches "hypothetical" even.

Only if you sign him to an offer sheet...if the team trades you the player, that's a different story.

the way i understand the draft picks is...the number of picks is pro rated to value of the contract signed, so if you tender a big offer sheet to pry a guy away from a team the more picks you give up, if we offer 2 mil to a guy being offered 1.5 by his current team we may only have to give up 1 pick.

sure i'd do that deal, i doubt that ottawa does that deal without some more assets going to them though. JvR + what would they want/need.

He'll get a raise. But because he's a RFA, Ottawa only needs to qualify him with a 10% raise. I think he'll get more than that.

Ottawa would never trade his rights and they would match ANY offer sheet he is signed to.

I know I said earilier in the year I was gonna give JVR one more year.....but hey I changed my mind!

However no way Sens do this....plus what happens if JVR develops into a player he should be....he could be a thorn in our side for years to come.

Yet the down side is to move a guy whos best season is 40 points (yeah thats it and going back 2 years to get that) for 4.25 mill for the next 6!!!

Move him before EVERYONE realizes he ain't worth that!

2 bad HEAVY contracts in Pronger and Bryz is bad enough to have to carry much less the guy who plays hard when he feels like it!
