"Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds was the subject of racial slurs after getting in a fight during a game in the Czech Republic on Sunday, Yahoo! Sports reported.

Fans chanted "opice," which means monkey, according to reports.

The marketing director of Chomutov, which faced Simmonds' team, issued an apology.

"We are disgusted with the behavior of small groups of spectators who significantly damaged the reputation of the whole. . . . club. We would like to deeply apologize to Mr. Simmonds and the Liberec players," David Dinda said in a statement.

Last year, during an exhibition game in London, Ontario, a fan threw a banana at Simmonds as he went in on a breakaway during a shootout.

Simmonds had a career-high 28 goals last season."

Eight fans face jail time for racist taunts as Wayne Simmonds leaves Czech League

According to iDNES.cz, eight fans were arrested and "charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and defamation of nation, race and other ethnic groups."

They face a hearing on Jan. 9, 2013, in Chomutov District Court and could be sentenced to a maximum of three years in prison.

The Czech site reports that the rowdy fans calls themselves the "Black Commandos", attending games in a black hooded sweatshirt and scarf, imbibing a considerable amount of booze before games. (One of the accused fans, Radek Pribyl, said he had 10 beers and two shots but was only "mildly drunk" because he's "trained" for that level of consumption.)

Also on tuesday it has been reported that Simmonds has left his Czech team to return to Canada for family reasons.
