TedZep
I don't think Lucic's hit on Rinaldo was particularly egregious, and Rinaldo himself didn't seem to have a problem with it. But Shanahan reviewed two boarding penalties with similar observations of each, with one key element: Bourque had never been suspended or fined prior, but Lucic has several instances of extra discipline. Which makes the two games for Bourque and one game for Lucic seem right out of the Campbell playbook in protecting the Bruins from reasonable discipline. Shanny, you fell down here.Lucic:http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=607252Bourque:http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=607306
five6four
interestng comparison between shannahans observations. personally, i felt a game for the rinaldo hit was a make up for no games for the miller hit. the call on borque is just awful.. a decent hit where a guy turned at the wrong time. lucic only got suspended because of the miller outrage. Bakanekimiwa
Once again.. It's rinaldo... I'm surprised a penalty was called, let alone a major. I'm disappointed in shanny on this one as well. Lucic is a repeat repeat offender.
flyerrod
Rinaldo did what he needed to do to take the hit into the boards, he did not drop his head down looking for a penalty which probably would have led to an injury. There have been a ton of hits that Lucic has done that are way over the line compared to this one and he has gotten away with them. This penalty was called in order to keep the game toned down and not let it turn into a slobber knocker. Bottom line, you watch a dozen Bruins games and you will see a dozen hits by Lucic way worse than the one he got suspended for.
KnucklesNilan
Should've been zero games... he got a 5 and a game, that should have been enough.
terp
Should've been zero games... he got a 5 and a game, that should have been enough. Shanahan's rationale for the suspension is the combination of a) Lucic lying to Shanahan's face regarding the hit on Ryan Miller (Lucic thought he got away with that one; Shanahan had other ideas), B) a retaliatory hit from behind on Rinaldo (Lucic was sticking up for Nathan Horton), c) showing up in Shanahan's office again so soon after the Miller incident and d) the suspension adds to Lucic's disciplinary resume, so Shanahan has greater leverage to hand out a bigger suspension next time. Lucic should take the hint and clean up his act before he puts a bug up Shanahan's ass.
AlaskaFlyerFan
[sarcasm Font] I'm surprised Rinaldo didn't get suspended!
TedZep
OK, but why Lucic only ONE game when Bourque got two? With Bourque's two game suspension as the baseline for someone that has never been disciplined, Lucic gets away with running Miller (which I am OK with - goalie leaves the crease to play the puck and gets hit a second after playing the puck, no call) and routinely boards people, so why the lighter "sentence"?And yes, Rinaldo should have gotten a minor for smearing the glass with his face. Spinorama
And yes, Rinaldo should have gotten a minor for smearing the glass with his face.he does have that "reputation" thing to deal with after all.
TedZep
Rinaldo is one of the few players that I have seen go to the penalty box for getting high-sticked.
