Harry Z sent to Adirondack

Z was sent to the Phantoms today with 2 games left on his suspension to make room on the active 23 man roster for..........? Mezsaros or McGinn? Probably Mezaros as McGinn should be out a few more weeks.

Harry still has two games remaining on his suspension so I think it is quite possible we won't see him again this season.

@AlaskaFlyerFan I thought that was how it worked, the 2 leagues work together and honour each others suspensions...which makes perfect sense, the AHL being a developmental league and all, don't wanna bite the hand that feeds ya type deal.

Does that mean he can finish his suspension in the AHL or does it mean he is screwed until he is called up and can finish his suspension in the NHL?

@flyerrod I'm thinking he has to finish the NHL suspenion before playing in the AHL, I think....maybe the Flyers still save cap space if he's down but not playing....not sure.

@jammer2,

Correct, he has to serve the suspension in the NHL. When Jesse Boulerice received the 25 game suspension, the Flyers played the "saving money" game with him. He was called up on Flyers game days and sent down on non-game days. During this time, he was not playing in the AHL.

Harry Z was in last night's box score for the Phantoms. I guess they decided his suspension will only be served in the NHL.

He has been ruled eligible.

Zolnierczyk Returned to Phantoms March 8, 2013

The Phantoms have announced that left-wing Harry Zolinerczyk (Zoln-uhr-check) has been returned to Adirondack by the Philadelphia Flyers, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

Zolnierczyk, 25, played in six games with the Flyers from February 12 through March 2 scoring zero goals and one assist. He received a four-game suspension from the NHL for charging Mike Lundin of the Ottawa Senators in a game on March 2, 2013. He has currently served two games of that suspension.

Per AHL by-laws, any player under suspension to another league is ineligible to play in the AHL pending review by the league President. Zolnierczyk has now been ruled eligible by the AHL effective today.

He would have to sit out the remaining two games of his suspension on any subsequent call-up to the NHL.

"Harry Z" has been tabbed as an alternate captain with the Phantoms this season and has 9 goals and 8 assists in 46 games this year. Zolnierczyk's most recent game with Adirondack was February 10 vs. Syracuse.

He scored 3 goals and 3 assists in 37 games with the Flyers last season including a highlight-reel caliber goal on October 18, 2011 against Ottawa in his NHL debut. He also played in 39 games with Adirondack last year scoring 8 goals and 13 assists.

The Toronto native and former Ivy League Player of the Year out of Brown University signed with the Flyers organization as a free agent in March, 2011.

Zolinierczyk is one of nine players from this year's Adirondack Phantoms roster to be called up and played for the Philadelphia Flyers this season along with Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier, Zac Rinaldo, Tye McGinn, Eric Wellwood, Andreas Lilja, Brian Boucher and Erik Gustafsson.

The Adirondack Phantoms are back in action this weekend with home games on Friday and Saturday against the Springfield Falcons and Connecticut Whale. Saturday night is Phantoms T-Shirt Night for the first 2,500 fans in attendance.

That would be ashame...yes it was a boneheaded mistake that got him out of the lineup but this team needs his speed and grit...he will be back maybe not during the regular season but he will be back the Flyers need his hustle hopefully next time he is up he just uses his head more often and choses more wisely how/when to lay the wood to someone... :PHI:
