TedZep
I will watch the games, and not just the box score the next day, so how do I approach these last 10 games? Do I actively cheer for the opposition, or just pretend cheer for the Flyers, or cheer for the Flyers but don't get disappointed when they lose, or am I supposed to be actually happy when they lose, or... help me out here, I'm in new territory.
flyercanuck
@TedZep Cheer for the Flyers. (deep down inside, hope they lose)

flyercanuck
@TedZep And when the opposition scores, act mad. Then watch a youtube video of Jonathan Drouin and Nate MacKinnon shellacking some team and just smirk.
aziz
@TedZepfor me, the games i'm watching at this point, i'm cheering for the players who appear to be the future of the team, hoping we see the things that bode well for the flyers going forward, and kind of just not paying a lot of attention to the current score. honestly, none of here can actually root for the flyers to lose if we are watching them play, we'll always get excited when they score and pissed when they get scored on. enjoy the games, look for the positives, and if they lose, remind yourself there is a consolation prize when this mini-season is over.
B21
@TedZepWhen each game is over, start a thread complaining about all the calls that went the Flyers way.
TedZep
@B21We both know from experience actually watching these games that that would probably be a blank thread. Those calls just don't happen in real life.As the resident expert at cheering for a deliberately tanking team, have you any other advice? Does the pain eventually go away? You appear to have a good soul, so it doesn't whither away completely... do you have to put it away in a special place to protect it until the draft picks start rolling in and you can let it back into the light again?

jammer2
@TedZep Totally respect your loyalty bro, but there is just to many franchise types sitting there for the taking, these games will mean nothing in a few weeks, those picks will be cornerstones for 15 years...that's a big swing right there.

JackStraw
Prospects aren't guarantees, let's remember that.So by that logic the Flyers should just trade away all their draft picks and young players for expensive vets? Oh wait, they already tried that.
doom88
So by that logic the Flyers should just trade away all their draft picks and young players for expensive vets? Oh wait, they already tried that.Absolutely not what I'm saying. I just want to temper expectations of the players not even drafted yet. 15 year cornerstone players? Franchise saviors? Let's be a little realistic here...

Franchise saviors? Let's be a little realistic here...I think we all understand that. But some prospects are better than others and this draft has some real good ones. I'd certainly much rather draft 1-5 than 10-15.
TedZep
those picks will be cornerstones for 15 years...that's a big swing right there. That's some serious hyperbole right there. Very few hockey players have fantastic 15 year careers, and those that do I bet come from every single round and none are guaranteed merely for being a top 5 pick. Also, the Flyers have several first round picks on their roster right now, but only two of which that were actually selected by the Flyers and neither of those was a top 5 pick. Trades happen and the Flyers have a terrible penchant for giving good young players to eventual Stanley Cup winners. Coincidence? Possibly, possibly. jammer2
@doom88 The top 3 this year certainly fit the bill as franchise savers. Any one of them is a guy you can build around. As close to guaranteed as you can get, cause of their elite skating.
TedZep
I'd certainly much rather draft 1-5 than 10-15.I don't think the Flyers are bad enough to make your dream come true. jammer2
@TedZep guess we'll have to revisit this in a few years, but the top 3 will all be wicked stars in this league, and our little meaningless winning streak took us away from their range.
LegionOfDoom
I root for the Flyers, but if they loose it will make the draft a more pleasant experience. Like the man said there are nice going away presents to not feel bad you lost in The Price Is Right......C'mmonn Downn!

The Flyers aren't good/bad enough to make anyone's dream come true! You're probably right but I think they're still in the running for Nurse, who I would love to get. And there are a couple other good dmen that should be available somewhere in the 5-10 range who could help this team.

jackhole
@jammer2 I'd go so far as to say these games are already meaningless, and therefore the 'pain' in loosing is faint at best. With Virtually no other way of acquiring a defenseman that can do what Timmo does/did, my sights are set on the draft only. And Its time to get behind & support the likes of Carolina, Tampa, Calgary, and Denver. Man I was way more pissed at the Hurricaines blowing their late lead to none other than the frakkin' Pens last nite. Those teams need to start producing! Too bad we couldn't play Leighton the rest of the way

Say you tank, as other teams have, there's a chance as well you draft an Alex Daigle,Pat Falloon,Pavel Brendl,Stefan I lived in Pittsburgh when the Crosby sweepstakes happened and seeing a lot of fans celebrating a tank job made me sick! To their credit, the guy's I worked with, and im sure there were others, admitted to the tanking and were sickened by it. A lot of fair weather fans were the ones wanting the tank IMO. TimKerrFan12
IF this wasn't so sad it would be funny. I am actually following the bottom of the standings instead of the top. I thought that was actually pretty funny when I thought about it.
flyercanuck
@ There are bad drafts and there are good ones. The year we finished last just happened to coincide with one of the weakest drafts ever. This year there are about 5 or 6 really good players. None are generational talents. But I'd bet the farm Jones, Drouin, MacKinnon and Nurse make positive waves on their teams. Barkov is a 17 year old big gifted Finn who's playing against men. Nichushkin seems to be the only ? and that's only because he's Russian and is signed in the K.
