PHANTOMS RECALLED

As the Flyers approach their final three games of the regular season they will have plenty of players to fill out the game roster.

The club announced today that they have recalled forwards Jason Akeson, Scott Laughton and Tye McGinn, as well as defenseman Matt Konan from their AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms.

McGinn and Laughton each spent time with the Flyers this season. Laughton made the opening roster and appeared in the first five games with the Flyers, going scoreless while posting 10 shots on goal and 11:31 of average ice-time per game.

McGinn appeared in 18 games for the Flyers, recording three goals and two assists for five points and 19 penalty minutes. He also missed six games due to a broken orbital bone.

Konan was briefly recalled by the Flyers on Apr. 16 along with defenseman Brandon Manning, to be available for the Flyers-Rangers game, but did not dress. He appeared in 42 games with Adirondack where he has two goals and four assists for six points in his first season of pro hockey.

Akeson led the Phantoms in scoring this past season, posting 20 goals and 33 assists for 53 points in 62 games with Adirondack. He began the season with the club's ECHL affiliate, the Trenton Titans, where he had 10 points (2g-8a) in 14 games.

Each player will practice with the squad and be available to be inserted into the line-up if necessary.

The Flyers play the final three games of the regular season this week when they take on the Boston Bruins (Tuesday) and NY Islanders (Thursday) before traveling to Ottawa to take on the Senators on Saturday night.

It would be nice to get a look at these kids for the last three.

Can they recall Laughton, or does that exceed the contract limit?

I'd really like to shut down a few to get a solid look at a few of the Phantoms.

They did recall Laughton if the above info is correct. The number of games he plays at this point should not affect his ELC as he will still be less than 10 games played in the NHL. I am not real up on the new CBA yet and also not sure if that number changed due to the shortened season but I have to hope those in management are.

I was under the impression he was sent back because if he played one more gm he would be bound to stay with the flyers for the year and count against his elc

@Bertmega

After talking with Gazoo this morning, he said they shortened the number of allowable games played to 5 games due to the shortened season. If this is the case, I hope he is watching from the box and not burning a meaningless contract year on this season.

If they burn a year of Laughtons ELC on 3 games in a meaningless season all I can say is,... I believe it. Somebody please tell Holmgren to get a clue.

And if they're really doing this to "tank", too little too late. You already took yourself out of the top 7 in a 5-6 player draft...idiots.

I can't find any write up on whether they expect Laughton to play or not. But I can't imagine a rule that says if he comes back later in the season, it doesn't count toward the 9 game (5 this year) maximum before burning a year on the ELC.

Anyone else find anything?

This article is interesting, but doesn't answer the question.
