flyercanuck
This guys name came up a few times when we would have been picking in the 5-8 range. I thought he was a bit of a reach there, but in the 11-12 I'm now hoping he's there to pick. For starters, he probably has the best slapper in the draft. I think we could use that. He's a good skater. He's a good passer. His leadership qualities are fairly well known. He plays a bit physical though that's certainly not his forte'. He's got NHL size which is important on D. I think he'd be a low risk high reward type at where we presently pick. Edited April 28, 2013 by flyercanuck
EDI-Flyer
@flyercanuck, I would be comfortable picking up Pulock if he was still there but would certainly prefer to take Ristolainen if he was available instead. And it goes without saying that I would take Nurse over either of them but the reality is he will almost certainly be off the board by then. Pulock does have a rocket of a shot (then again so does Kurtis Foster ) but overall I prefer the prefer the size of Risto at 6"4 210, who also plays a more physical game. flyercanuck
@EDI-FlyerOh I'd take Ristolainen over him in a heartbest. I just figured he'd be gone by our pick. Or if he falls to us Homer takes Domi.
EDI-Flyer
@flyercanuck Risto could well be gone by the time we pick at 11th or could still be available, it really depends on the organisational needs of the teams picking above us. Take a look at the ISS rankings below http://www.isshockey.com/iss-top-30/ , it is interesting to see the differences between their rankings and NHL Central Scouting. The bottom line is no-one knows whether the teams above us have a "pick best player available" mentality or "fill team positional need" mentality. Either way I will be crossing my fingers that he is still available when we pick.1 Jones, Seth RD 6.03.5 208 Portland2 Nichushkin, Valery F 6.04 202 Chelyabinsk Traktor3 MacKinnon, Nathan C 6 182 Halifax4 Drouin, Jonathan C 5.10.75 185 Halifax5 Barkov, Sasha F 6.03 209 Tappara6 Nurse, Darnell LD 6.03.5 189 S.S. He's got NHL size which is important on DSounds good and he's a RH shot....i likey...the Flyers blueline has looked a lot better with some balance...i mean not all LH shots like have been skating on the blueline in many years past...just helps alot with the puck movement and it needs to continue....balance is good.Even though it's all positive i can say about these two....Bruno and Foster...i really like the look of RH shot from the point and seems they have finally learned thye need it...so i would like him or Risto the farm desperately needs blueline prospects. Jmdodgesrt4
Well he is ranked 90 on my nhl 13. Awesome slap and wrist shot lol. If that means anything. And that was at the end of his elc and a year in junior.
flyercanuck
@EDI-Flyer Lets face it, if you took 30 scouts from 30 NHL teams they'd have 30 different top 30s.
JackStraw
I wouldn't mind Pulock if Jones, Nurse, and Risto are gone by #11. I am also kind of interested in Robert Hagg. I think he's projected to go a bit lower but he seems to have a lot of potential. Here's a scouting report from McKeen's:http://www.mckeensho...lueline-cherry/"a methodical, two-way defenseman; skilled and highly cerebral .. approaches the game not unlike New Jersey pick Adam Larsson in that he is able to control the tempo and speed of the game through the quality of his decision making .. his skating doesn’t immediately impress – doesn’t overwhelm with speed or explosiveness, yet he rarely loses the foot races thanks to a smooth, comfortable stride .. his pace is more based on being calculating and swift in his movements .. what sets him apart is an uncanny hockey sense that features a knack for being able to sense and react to pressure .. easily shakes off initial checking pressure and finds his outlets .. a strong, accurate passer – can make a blinding-fast first pass from anywhere on the ice, while his point shot is an absolute rocket .. does not shy away from physical contact either, as he will push back – and backed by astute positional sense .. supports the puck exceptionally well in all zones .. knows how to utilize his athletic good-sized frame (6-2/195) to productively create space and separation .. there is still some immaturity in his game however that will iron out as he gains experience .. must be cognisant of going overboard as he is prone to taking emotional, undisciplined penalties .. can handle the pace of a game when it intensifies – an attribute which makes him attractive as a potential universal, top-four NHL defenseman."Highlights from the WJC (#14 for Sweden): Seems to be a real good skater with a lot of poise, and an excellent passer. Swedish defensemen seem to be all the rage these days. Edited April 30, 2013 by JackStraw

flyercanuck
@JackStraw In case you hadn't noticed, he's been giving 2nd rounders away for a few years now. I think it may have started with the Carcillo for "Oh No, Not Scottie" Upshall trade where Homer felt the need to throw in a 2nd just for the hell of it. JackStraw
@flyercanuck - now that you mention if I have noticed 2nd round picks flying out of South Philly.
flyercanuck
If you take a look in the South Philly pantry you may find one. But there certainly isn't an amount of 2nd round picks you could survive a nuclear fallout in a bomb shelters worth, that's for damn sure. OccamsRazor
Oh I'd take Ristolainen over him in a heartbest."The lone reason I have Pulock slightly ahead of Ristolainen is Pulock's superior offensive upside. If one of the two is going to evolve into a top pairing NHL player, I think it will be Pulock." -Bill Meltzerhttp://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Bill-Meltzer/Meltzers-Musings-Offseason-Defense-Planning-Defensemen-in-2013-Draft/45/51311#.UYMrvUrCSSoSo either way hopefully they land a solid blueline propsect this coming draft.I don't know at first i'm thinking Risto...but everything i'm reading is saying with proper time Pulock has the best upside....hard one.Homer better do his homework. JackStraw
I don't know at first i'm thinking Risto...but everything i'm reading is saying with proper time Pulock has the best upside....hard one.If I had to take a guess right now, knowing what I know about all these defensemen (which isn't much) I would predict that Pulock may put up the best numbers offensively of all of them. But that to me doesn't mean that he's a real top pairing guy. Or at least the kind of top pairing guy I would want (i.e., not Mike Green). I would gladly sacrifice some points for a guy who plays a smart two way game, who can play all situations and give you big (35-30) minutes every night. I would value passing ability almost as much as shooting ability.
