"We did well down the stretch"

So I called my rep in the Flyers ticket office to complain that we have not had a STH townhall meeting in the last 2 seasons and that I felt like it was a slap in the face to the fans not to have it when we had to endure such a crap season. I told him that I want to hear from the execs about what the plan is going down the road as I help foot the bill for the shenanigans on ice that we have been watching lately. I also told him that last year an excuse was given that they could not get the building free I told him this year the building should be wide open with no Flyers or 76ers playoffs. I also told him that we the fanbase are pissed about the way this team was built as we have to sit here and watch our division rivals and Richards and Carter compete for the cup while we do nothing.

I was told that they still MIGHT have a STH townhall this year. The excuse is, "with such a crazy year it has been hard to find a time to get all the execs together". I find that hard to believe as we are not in the playoffs what are they doing, planning their summer golf outings? Then came the part that really troubled me. I was told, "Don't worry we are going to bounce back next year, did you see how well we did down the stretch? We beat the Bruins and Habs, we are going to be better". Now this may be his opinion but my heart sank when I heard this as if this is really what they believe as a team we are screwed. Yeah you had a nice little run at the end but that didnt do much more than move us down in the draft. That was too small a sample size and demonstrated that we can win when it doesn't count for anything. I would not put too much stock in the last few games of the season.

I dunno maybe I am being too cynical here but that line didnt sit too well with me especially if it is emblematic of how the higher ups really feel and it really could be after all that garbage that Snider spewed the other day with all the excuses.

If we do happen to have a STH townhall I will be sure to provide a full report but dont hold your breath.

I applaud you for contacting them and speaking your mind. Good on you man. And i agree with everyting you said there. Winning games that don't matter mean absolutely squat, other than a worsening draft position.

Sadly, it sounds like you STH rep was readng from Snider's "how to deal with fans" handbook. I too have become very cynical about this club and I hope that in the future I am presently surprised with the management of this team. If anything it will be an incredibly interesting offseason.

not to take the other side too hard, but...they were 13-11-2 in march and april, 8-5 in april alone. that is fairly solid, and represents more than half of the season...so, not just the last few games. no, didn't do anything but move them down (up?) in the draft, but in a normal season it would have been a meaningful December-January turnaround, and a nice run into the allstar break and reason for optimism the rest of the way. I guess i'm saying, don't discount too much the weirdness of this abbreviated season.

there are problems, arguably big problems, but....I think there is a decent opinion to be stated that the playoffs were more than realistic if the team had a full season to work with. a bad first two months is never a good thing, but it isn't usually the death of a season. this time, it was.

that said, pretty f'ed up for them to not hold what I thought was a standard perk of being a STH.
