hf101
Fleury has agreed to address his mental approach through a sports psychologist. Shero had previously asked Fleury to meet with one, but it will finally happen this summer. The Penguins will also have a new goalie coach who hasn't been named yet.read more hereI'm kind of surprised he hasn't seen one sooner. jammer2
@hf101 The odd part is, somewhere under that sieve like tender is the guy who won the Cup, and looked good doing it. Sometimes athletes lose *it* and it never comes back. Usually a mental thing, or brought on by trauma like Tiger Woods being discovered as a sex addict. He's had some recent success of late, but will never be the dominant golfer he once was. Public perception and the ensuing divorce from his wife eroded the masterful skill set he once had. A real good example of how an athletes mindset can help or destroy a career.
flyercanuck
Pressure, and the way people handle it can be a tough row to hoe. Guys like Patrick Roy and Claude Lemieux seemed to thrive off it. Fleury and Bryz collapse under it.
J0e Th0rnton
Probablt the same sports Phych he went to see after he scored the winning goal for team US in the world juniors. To be honest, i thought he would never recover from that

I hope the therapist can fix it!
jammer2
@Polaris922 To be clear, I agree he used to thrive off it, but in no way, shape or form do I want this mess fixed!!
Polaris922
@Polaris922 To be clear, I agree he used to thrive off it, but in no way, shape or form do I want this mess fixed!! :D/>I'm sure you don't! But he's young (28) and has shown serious flashes of brilliance surrounded by mediocre play. He plays fairly well regular season... Then collapses.
JR Ewing
There's nothing a therapist can do to "bring back" the game of a goalie who's never had a great save percentage.JR

nossagog
Nothing they can do to help him mentally at this point. He's an on or off goalie. When he's on he's spectacular, when he's off he leaks goals being out of position.
yave1964
Reminding me more and more of Luongo. When he is good he is really, really good. When he is bad......
NRH
Reminding me more and more of Luongo. When he is good he is really, really good. When he is bad......Except Lu didnt win the cup.The biggest problem for MAF is when he was drafted by the penguins after that intentionally tanked that year he probably went in thinking he was on a terrible team and really prepare and honed his game to make a name for himself. He wins a cup and probably begins to believe its his talent rather than his teammates infront of him that were forced to tank a season for him and Crosby.Suddenly he is a hemmoragging wound in the penguins line-up because he was never really that great in the first place.I heard bryz was looking for a team. peter puck
I don't think they were forced to tank they legitimately sucked. The " tanking" part came naturally coupled with the fact that management didn't care if they lost. I think this is going to be a pivotal year for MAF. Maybe he can go to one of Bryzs camps and get some tips on how to mentally prepare for the playoffs as he plays fairly well in the regular season. flyercanuck
Thank you. Also, they traded up to #1 from #3.Rookies. And here I thought they sucked all those years....when reality shows they actually were only 28th from the top one year, and 26th another. It was the other 3 years that they totally sucked. Polaris922
Yes they legitimately sucked. And yet again the calls of "tanked" ring out from Flyers central... I should've expected a new episode when all the new faces turned up. . Is there any way we can require new members who are Flyers fans to read the old threads on why the Pens didn't tank all those years so I don't feel like Groundhog Day? Yeah, sure....as soon as you produce the key to the secret room that housed the secret balls!!!
Polaris922
@jammer2That key is in Holmgren's office. It's how the Flyers rep got in before the last place team had the worst percentage chance (6.3%) in history of winning the lottery but still did. You guys should find out who the Flyers rep was and look at his bank accounts for questionable deposits from Pittsburgh.
jammer2
@Polaris922 Seriously though, it does get old wading through the muddy waters of this fiasco every couple months, huh?
Polaris922
@jammer2I really enjoy the analytical and intellectual debates on this site. So yes, this allegation gets very, very old.
