Buffalo Rick
Flynn just signed and this Sabres team is no longer a small team like they were once accused of being. Gerbe is gone, and if anyone knows if he was picked up, please tell? I think he was put on waivers? But I believe he is gone. The defense already had Myers but the two they drafted are big players. I do believe the Sabres will be better than people suspect. I have a friend that is a Vancouver fan that thinks he is playing possum. If these young guys they drafted can play now, that will help. I expect the number one pick to make it. The Finnish kid. We wont have to wait long to see if we can continue our dominance over the Penguins as we get them 3 games in. So anyway, we only play the Metropolitan division teams 3 times, and the Western teams twice. Each home and away. And of course there is the Olympic break Edited July 26, 2013 by hf101
jammer2
@Hockey Junkie You can however, call them 100-1 odds of winning the cup, ranked right in there with Calgary and Florida for dead last in the league. http://www.belmont.ag/live-lines/hockey/nhl-stanley-cup-lines
radoran
The problem the Sabres have in the short term - aside from the GM - is the new division they are in:Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Detroit, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, Florida, BuffaloAt best five of those teams go to the playoffs (I hate the eight team divisions)The problem is that six have been to the playoffs since Buffalo was last. And I don't recall any of their GMs talking about "rebuilding" and "suffering." jammer2
@yave1964 I have a lot of respect for Gerbe, one of the hardest workers in the league, a little man playing a big mans game. I betcha a thousand people wrote him off as to small to play in the NHL, and he proved them all wrong. Gotta cheer for a guy like that. Outstanding work ethic, even if he's in the AHL, that's a respectable 1st or 2nd call up, love the guys who make your team harder to play against.

Yes, that Marty Murray who managed to score a point while the team around him quit against Ottawa.
jammer2
@radoran Wow, had forgot about Marty, I like that comparision, certainly wore his heart on his sleeve like Gerbe does.
goalnut3133
@Hockey Junkie I don't care, I root for the underdogs too. And I'll always have a 'soft spot' for the Sabres after I heard about Malarchuk's gruesome injury. (It hit me hard so I wrote a topic about that, as goalies are my thing).
