mojo1917
Do you think this is a move to put pressure on Blysma or does it address a need to bolster a more defensive oriented mindset ?
B21
Do you think this is a move to put pressure on Blysma or does it address a need to bolster a more defensive oriented mindset ?The latter. I'd say both if Bylsma wasn't just given a ringing endorsement by Shero along with a shiny new contract extension. That said, if the Pens exit in Round 1, I'd say Martin would be on the short list to replace Danny Boy. jammer2
@B21 I think if Blysma's job ever was in jeopardy, it helps out the management seeing a guy like Martin interact with the players, see how they respond to him etc. It just gives you more data to make the decision. nossagog
Do you think this is a move to put pressure on Blysma or does it address a need to bolster a more defensive oriented mindset ?I'd say with the defensive mindset. Letang could use someone on the staff that will make him a little more responsible. He can also bring along some of the young defensemen like Despres and Bortozzo. It could be a youth movement on defense coming in the next few years for the Pens, why not put in place a good defensive coach for them.
Polaris922
Will be interesting to see what his responsibilities are.
flyercanuck
It can't hurt having Martin bring a defensive aspect to a team that needs that to take the next step in the playoffs. I don't like him as a head coach. But having him as an assistant is nothing but a +.
blocker
Not too sure about his ability to manage highly paid stars, but I think he knows a lot about pro hockey.
nossagog
Not too sure about his ability to manage highly paid stars, but I think he knows a lot about pro hockey.I think that will be minimized by him being an assistant coach instead of the head coach
