Looks like Morin gained some weight but he is not eclipsing the 215 lb threshold just yet:

VOORHEES, N.J. -- Some things stand out in a training camp.

And when you’re 6-foot-6, like 18-year-old Samuel Morin, you stand out.

Taking it a step farther, the Flyers’ first-round pick is beefier.

He was 202 pounds when drafted last June. Since then, the defensive prospect from Lac-Beauport, Quebec, put on nine more pounds. It’s noticeable, too, at rookie camp which began Friday.

“I was working on gaining weight this summer,” Morin said. “I trained here and lived at [ian] Laperriere’s house.

“I know [Claude] Giroux and [bruno] Gervais. A lot of good guys. Adam Hall. Just to know the organization, it’s fun.”

He had a good time living with Lappy, who is now director of player development.

“I have known him a [long time] because we have the same agent [Pat Brisson],” Morin said.

Laperriere is a no-nonsense kind of guy, too. What did he teach you?

“Just to be responsible and clean my bed and make some food,” Morin said with a smile.

You cook?

“I cook nothing for him -- just me. A sandwich. He gave me good corrections. He was very nice.”

Being nice is not why the Flyers drafted Morin ahead of some others. He has a bit of an edge to him which may have something to do with his idolizing of Chris Pronger. He mentioned Pronger again on Friday.

He also admitted he can’t wait to get past the “skills” stage of camp and start hitting some people -- even his own teammates.

“For sure, it’s a big challenge for me,” he said. “You have a lot of big guys and I just have to play my game. Like in junior, a tough game, a hard game. I can’t be impressed by all those veterans and old guys.”

General manager Paul Holmgren said this week Morin will stick around in the big camp next week.

Given his towering size, the Flyers want to see how he handles himself against their established NHL players. Morin already has that figured out.

You want to throw some checks to see how you stack up?

“Oh yeah, for sure,” he replied. “I will. I don’t care. I’m 18, but in my mind, I’m a veteran. When I am on the ice, I think I am the best. I have to think like this to perform. I’m not shy. It’s my attitude and the same in life, too.”

The more Morin talks, the more you understand why the Flyers drafted him. He’s got that Flyer mentality. Being a defenseman is just extra gravy on it.

For now, guys have to contain themselves. Today was instructional.

“I thought it was good,” said Flyers coach Peter Laviolette, who is running this camp, as well as the main one next week.

“We went up and down pretty hard. Tried to implement some things we will use in the rookie game and the big camp in moving forward.

“We’ll see some of these players at some point. It’s good to give some of these players a quick blast of what we’re trying to do.”

Morin seemed to enjoy himself on the ice.

“I like that with some pro guys, the intensity is hard,” he said. “Good passes and execution. I love being here.”

It’s a few notches up from the developmental camp the club held in July.

And the main camp will be even higher on the bar.

HAHAHA i got a chuckle out of that...but no way he stays this year he'll be ready in two years though...no need to rush him hell they already have a log jam on the blueline now....why add to it?????

But it could be a strategy of Homers to have to trade a 2nd rounder to take someone....no need to have all that pressure of what to do with another 2nd pick, so may be just give it away with Mezz.....

OR... I loved the "old guys" quote as well... you know he is going to hear some **** in the locker room for that... I like the kids attitude!

I was only joking about making the Team... let the kids develop.   I was just giving Mario99 a ribbing b/c he said Morin would make the Team if he comes to camp at 215 lbs.

It's great to see him putting on muscle over the summer. I would love to see him up at around 220lb by next summer, to me that would be a decent playing weight for a 6"6 guy with a decent frame. The main thing is to make sure that the extra weight doesn't impact his mobility and skating.

I love the fact he is brimming with confidence. Long before players are the best, they at least think they are elite. He seems to have an excellent attitude. You envision being great, you are great...you own it. This is a great line of thinking. It seems like he will not accept excuses, and I like that.
