HE IS JOINING THE FLYERS....this is a freaking riot.

Holmgren says he doesnt anything about Cleary. Expects him here tomorrow until told otherwise

Homer says Cleary still expected to report Thurs.

Philly GM disagrees with my report. RT @BroadStBull Homer says Cleary still expected to report Thurs.

A deal is as solid as the paper it is written on.

SPECULATION: Cleary thought he was actually getting the three year deal he SAID he was getting, not a PTO with a "once the season starts" assurance.

Guy has had injury concerns in the past and was being asked to risk injury essentially for free during camp? If someone else came up with "real money" I'm not at all surprised he would take it.

Score card here...Score card here...get your score card here......can't tell a deal from one another without one :lol:

this is beginning to sound like the classic "Who's on first!"  :P

sooooo.......all joking aside...."What the hell is going on?"

does he or does he not have a contract?  and if yes ...is it a PTO or a 3 yr job that was reported earlier.......  This is starting to make my head spin!

I have been trying to figure this out. It is a mess.  What does this mean?

1) Couterier is on the trading block and they want an all-purpose forward;

2) Talbot is seen as a spent force and they want a tougher alternative;

3) Homer has little faith in his youngsters.

The whole thing makes not sense and leaves me feeling strange.

Peace,

Howie

Personally, I would be happy if Cleary doesn't come here. I think it's much more beneficial to the team and players if a guy like McGinn on the 3rd line, or if Laughton makes things interesting.

I'm just not sure why we continue to go hunting for other people's castaways when we've got perfectly good players in the system here. They'll never develop if we don't give them a chance.

McGinn played fine in his time up last year, and then he got injured and never had a second chance. See what he can do this year.

I dunno, but Cleary is probably good for 30 points *at the most* this year if he plays on the 3rd line with Coots. I don't think it's a stretch that McGinn would get 20.. and he's much cheaper and much younger.

1) Couterier is on the trading block and they want an all-purpose forward;

For Christ's sake this kid is not yet 21 and just finished a partial 2nd year.  What is it with this club giving up on younger players (if he truly is on the block).  He had a down and disappointed 2nd season and struggled on the ice at times.  But then again there were very few players who did not stuggle at some point in time last year.  To give up on him IMO would be a mistake of grand proportions.

2) Talbot is seen as a spent force and they want a tougher alternative;

Another player that had a down/off year.  I always liked this signing and still think his locker personality is must for this squad.  Besides Talbot is younger and in better health.  Talbot >>>Cleary though maybe not as physical.

3) Homer has little faith in his youngsters.

Probably a true statement.  However, he needs to chill and learn to let these players develop.  Besides wasn't it Hicth that never wanted to play younger guys?  Hence one of the reasons Sharp was traded.

The whole thing makes not sense and leaves me feeling strange.

Peace,

Howie

See my comments in red. How about we just don't sign either Cleary or Gagne and develop another younger player.  I'm not expecting a cup run this year anyway so why not let the youngsters develop.

Hey Milestone!! My 1000th post!  (well a milestone to me!) :)

@jammer2

You may be right.  Snider may have given Homer the ultimatum, make a serious cup or else.  So hence the Catch-22 that this organization will always be in.  To most of us die hards here on this forum we understand the need to be patient and develop players, however, as to the average fan as you mentioned, they will have difficulty understanding that point of view.  They want a cup run now.  No cup run now brings empty seats in the spring.  Empty seats = no money.  No money makes Ed very unhappy.  Hence Ed tells Homer you need to make a cup run regardless if this team has the talent to do it or not.  Ed to Homer....one last thing your job depends on this season. Make it happen.
