Fletch44
Well, now at 500, good to see and I still don't think G is at his best. Mason and Razor are great. I hate to say it but Homer must be thinking trade with everything looking up, ha ha. Lets hope not for the time being...
jammer2
@Fletch44 If it ain't broke..... So, perhaps, just maybe...we were not as bad as we thought. Maybe just a horrid start that ended up fixing itself over time. I do have no doubt that Berube has a lot to do with this. Who knew? On the surface, it looked like the Flyers passing up great young new coachs for the old tired ex-Flyer club. I owe Homer an apologly, Berube was a great choice, and not cause we are suddenly winning.....but that does help...lol. He has put his stamp on this team, defensive awareness first, then the goals will come. I really, really am liking how Berube is fitting in. Even his line matching does not look like a rookie coach. My confidence in Craig grows with each passing game. Never thought I'd be typing this a few weeks ago, but the Flyers appear to be one of the better teams in the East, great balance, great goaltending, excellent coaching and a realistic defense first approach which fits perfectly with our rosters skill sets. This type of philosophy is what wins in the playoffs, not Lavi's HORRID run and gun crap!! After having my heart broke once again, I have renewed vigor, a sense that everything is gonna be fine....I'm so happy it's spilling over into other parts of my life!! Everything suddenly has a silver lining!!
JackStraw
@jammer2 - I think Keith Jones hit it right on the head during the broadcast when he said that Berube has them playing as five man units in all three zones. That's the kind of hockey that I love to see. I was shocked when Berube was named coach. I honestly never thought of him as head coach material. Like you said, who knew?

He replied conditioning and now they are skating.

Sounds kinda Red Wingy if you ask me. Which is a huge compliment for Craig!!
doom88
So, it was actually the coach AND goalie this year eh?
flyercanuck
@doom88 Maybe they should have tried firing both 3 decades ago?
JackStraw
5 man units you say? Sounds kinda Red Wingy if you ask me. Which is a huge compliment for Craig!!Yeah. I think these days it's also kinda Bruins-y too, and I'm pretty sure I remember Berube mentioning the Bruins as playing the kind of hockey he wanted to have the Flyers playing. Either way, those are two pretty good models to follow.
brelic
Yup, after opening the season 1-7, the Flyers have gone 9-3-2, including 6-0-1 in their last 7. They're looking way way better. It's almost like a different team, honestly. Not sure what that was.... but it's strange when it happens. To me they're playing great as a team, and are fun to watch again! I'd say the one glaring weakness I see is questionable execution with their breakout / neutral zone passing. A lot of poor passes / low percentage plays that results in turn overs or broken plays. Fix that, and we're a top 8 team in the East.
canoli
I'd say the one glaring weakness I see is questionable execution with their breakout / neutral zone passing. A lot of poor passes / low percentage plays that results in turn overs or broken plays. the good news there is (how i see it anyway) those bad plays, passes are the exception now rather than the rule. Now they only get sloppy at certain times, generally after they've built a lead. I agree they need to work on keeping the same energy and focus for 60 minutes regardless of the score. I guess Berube was right, most of the trouble early on was guys being out of game shape. That's why so many passes were off-the-mark, why we gave up all those odd-man chances, why we never could maintain possession and get a forecheck going. The mistakes add up, turn into frustration, guys start trying to win shifts by themselves...now the game plan is out the window...next thing you know you're 1-7. Looks like everyone is finally in game shape now and things are clicking. Probably a good time to make some trades...get rid of that backup goaltender we don't need. OccamsRazor
Or maybe I should have said* "the beginning..." Hopefully a new win steak begins tonight in Tampa....Emery is suppose to start. Vinny's first game back should be an interesting one.

murraycraven
FC... TB has pretty much gives the Flyers fits over the last several games... not sure exactly what it is but they seem to have some serious mojo when playing the Flyers. Mad Dog
I am still cautiously optimistic before I call this a resurgence, or bad start to the season, or whatever... Maybe I am looking at the glass half-empty, but there are still some sloppy plays and the defense is way too shaky for my liking. No doubt Chief instilled the team concept and better skating is obvious, but I want to see more consistency and I want to see that against the contenders, even though they did beat the Pens. The Tampa game should give us a better gauge of where this team is at right now...
