Polaris922
Are we in a slump? Or is this just where we're at with the reduced salary cap? Not happy with the loss in Montreal. We clearly outplayed the Habs and the Avery like Subban, but Price shone like a diamond and won the game for the Habs. Now in Boston, we outplayed the Bruins and lost it in OT. It's been a rocky couple of weeks with six losses in our last ten games. They definitely put in the effort tonight and against the Habs... So is this just the result of all the injuries? Or is something else wrong?

It's an 82 game season of which injuries will be a part...a noticeable part in our case. 3 AHLers in the line-up last night. I can't get too upset with a 4-3 OT loss in Boston (Boston was 9-3-2 at home going into last night's game). For a team that hasn't really hit its stride yet, 15-9-1 / 31 PTS is a nice place to be. Let's face it, the regular season for the Pens now is an 82 game prep for the playoffs.
nossagog
I think teams have seen enough game film to understand how to limit Crosby's points. Our 3rd/4th lines are useless in scoring, we are really missing that secondary scoring. Malkin has played great, but he needs to scores goals. We need a better power play coach. Our PP is, and has been for years, a perimeter oriented PP. We need to get people in front of and grind out goals, pretty goals are becoming to hard to come by. Is there anyone besides Kunitz to fill that role ?i haven't watched your team much this year, so i have no idea after the top 6 what is going on there, ( aside from Sutter ) my team was so horrid to start the season i coudn't look away, and now that they are skating i've enjoyed the Boston Bruin lite thing that's going on. @Polaris922 from what you"ve posted sounds like some breaks are going the other way, they will even out, Hot goal tender vs Mtl, and an ot loss in Boston seems like a bouncing puck here or a fortutious deflection there could have change the result. I don't think i'd be pressing any sort of panic button or even really worrying too much , especially if they're creating opportunities and playing crisply. Polaris922
@B21@nossagog@mojo1917 Sorry boys been a bit absent of late. All that overtime is done now so life may resume. I agree there is nothing to panic about. They just seemed to sink into a slump there. No secondary scoring IS an issue, with a lot of AHL'ers filling roles. Fleury has been shaky as usual, then stellar other nights. Tonight... second Isles goal was weak and went right through him. Then he stands on his head.. even stopping the Neilsson penalty shot. Crosby and Malkin are fighting for the scoring race which is a big plus. We'll see where the season takes us.

That whole kid thing - you know? With all the injuries, line shuffling (aside from Kunitz/Crosby/Dupuis) and D shuffling has made the early part of the season seem like one big clustermuck (or is it Clutterbuck?).
