murraycraven
As well as the Flyers have been playing up front I am still concerned about Giroux. G should have been a stone-cold lock to make the Canadian Team but over last year's mediocre season and the beginning of this season he is nearly playing himself off the roster. While Canada's Team is the furthest concern in my mind (sorry Canadian friends) I see it is a microcosm of the Giroux situation. While averaging a PPG last year most considered his play below expecations. Coming into camp this year w/ an injury certainly did not help but this season for Giroux has been well below expectations as well. All I want to see in the new year is G return to form. *IF* he can return to form and step back into that "top-ten" list of players in the NHL I would be willing to say this Team has a shot to make the playoffs and maybe do some damage. I want the player that skates hard every shift and has the amazing vision to create plays while having the touch to finish scorig chances - not the player that makes terrible decisions with the puck and throws more blind passes than Stevie Wonder w/ a football. Simply - I want the player that is going to be worthy of an 8M/8yr contract. I hope he comes out of the funk b/c right now I am starting to believe (oe maybe believe) he is a very good player but nowhere near the elite status most thought. I still see bad decisions and I still see the lack of finish in his game. Where is the player that can take over a game(s)? Last, this is not meant to be a Giroux bashing thread and I dont think anyone can argue his talent level. The question: is Grioux an elite level player or simply a very good player that is being greatly overpaid for the next 8 years? For all of the arguing about Hartnell and the like type contracts this could be a very tough cap hit *if* he were to never reach the elite status. Thoughts? flyercanuck
I think he's not 100% over the injury (I hope) I think he's a top ten but I hated when Laviolette called him the best...that's just pure bs. I hope he can play his way back onto Team Canada because for one, when he's on his game he deserves to be there, and for two, those events are a great experience for these guys.

FC... agree with everything you cited. If he does land on the Canadian Team (I really hope he does) maybe it will be a confidence boost as well. I HAVE to believe the injury is still a part of the issue too... His shot definitely looks like it is not where it once was - to me anyway... I just care about a Stanley Cup first. And if he don't make it he could use the rest and motivation it will create....and all of that benefit.........the Flyers shall reap. Otherwise i don't even care. Go USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
flyercanuck
@murraycraven Anytime you get to play for your country it's a positive experience. Just being on the ice and hanging out with the best players has to boost your confidence you'd think.

I don't agree with the "rest" part. Whoever wins the Stanley Cup this year, or last, or next, will be filled with guys who played in the Olympics. And I'd bet none of them would consider anything but a positive.

I understand.... yet either way he'll keep on rolling. And sure it would be nice but everyone can't play for team Canada. So if he makes it, he makes it. His main priority is bring his game together and with him, i'm more concerned with his effort without the puck. He still has a role defensively and he still needs to set a more consistent model it's coming together but its not there completely yet...the other i'm not so worried about. flyercanuck
@OccamsRazor Experiencing an Olympic camp with guys like Toews or Crosby who take everything so seriously when it comes to hockey can only help. And it's not like he's had to go through a long playoff run last year or anything.

There's some great veteran leadership on the proposed Canadian roster already. Edited November 27, 2013 by FreakinFlyersFan
Green Man
Honestly, I really hope he is left off the roster. This is only going to wear him down for a playoff push and run (hopefully a run!). As many from this team that can use the break to heal up/rest up for a second half run is fine with me. Its going to be two seasons this year, as it has been since the pros started playing in these games and the long break has been in place. doom88
Giroux is not and never will be elite. Period. Nothing wrong with being very good, but he won't be great.
