hf101
As mentioned here, the Phantoms and Flyers have apparently ended their affiliation with Greenville as the players got very little playing time and then were moved to other teams. The organization only has 3 players in the ECHL -Andrew Johnston (Orlando) and Maxime Lamarche (Elmira) are on NHL contracts and Doug Clarkson (Reading) is on an AHL contract. Thus, Phantoms have carried a larger roster this year, scratching two or three forwards and one or two defensemen most games. Hextall said there are some players for whom it's beneficial to practice at the AHL pace, but others who have to play. The latter group might be sent to the ECHL to get the playing time if they weren't getting it with the Phantoms. I guess they will be dispersed through the ECHL as there will be no one team to affiliate with for the rest of the season. Currently there are two ECHL teams without affiliates: Fort Wayne and Las Vegas. Neither of those teams fit the geographical profile Hextall was hoping for. "Next year, I'd like to nail down an affiliate, hopefully geographically a little bit closer," Phantoms general manager and Flyers assistant general manger Ron Hextall said. "What I'd like to do is where you send a guy for a couple of games to get him going." It seems Reading would make the most sense imo, especially with the Phantoms playing in Allentown next season. murraycraven
Not so sure about the royals considering they are for sale right now. They can't even get people to go to playoff games and with the Phantoms coming to A-town they are gonna be hurting.
