Rinaldo's STUPIDITY

hf101

Recommended Posts

Against Dallas he was given a 2/ 5 / 10 and a game misconduct totaling 27min of penalties and put the Flyers as a disadvantage for a 7min PK.  Fortunately due to the strong play of Mason and the penalty killers the the game was still 0-0.

It appears there will be no further suspension by the league.

But by request of @B21 I started this thread.   ;)

I'd like to see Rinaldo a healthy scratch in the game against Ottawa even though I know it won't happen.

Discuss.

@hf101

 This is the Rinaldo I saw playing here in Barrie. Taking dumb penalties that eventually cost his team. For the most part he's kept his game more on the edge than over and generally draws more penlties than he takes. But if he can't keep his head on straight he won't last in the NHL. Then again I never thought he'd keep it on enough to make it in the first place.

  You guys always defend Rinaldo when I compare him to a Mike Brown type, a seven minute a night goon who cant play.

  grudgingly I admit he has turned into a useful player, can kill penalties and does an adequate job as a checking line player when called upon and has earned his playing time, but this is what you get from him. Every now and then he is going to do something appallingly stupid and hurt his team. This was one of those incidents. Just when I was ready to apologize and admit he was turning into a player you could count on and trust he does something like this. It is always going to be there, the potential  for him to have a mental explosion and cost his team a game.

ok...just watched it.  DUMB...DUMB ....DUMB......what the hell is Zac thinking?

ok we don't know what chirping may have been going on the ice nor do we see what might have been happening out of the camera view, but IMO Zac Pearl Harbored him.

ok I get the 2 for instigating, the 5 for fighting, but why the game misconduct?

I do agree there should be no further action by the league, BUT the Chief should have a pow wow with him and sit his A$$ for the next game.

Thank God Mason bailed them out for his stupidity.

Just curious, why did B21 want a thread started.  Trying to compare what happened in the Pens game and to what happened with Zac?

Yep. He seemed upset that Neal and Orpik were called out and Rinaldo was not given the same treatment in here, a Flyer dominated forum.

We also said the same thing about Downie, who while in juniors, always had that moment when he would go postal.  The difference is Downine can actually play the game.  Zac, I thought turned the corner last year.  For the most part he has been pretty good this year, but then his pulls this stunt.

I figured as much.  The one difference I can make is that Neal did his dirty work while the Bruin player was already down on the ice.  At least Roussel was upright, though I admit Zac did sucker punch him at least twice once they went down on the ice.

So which infraction is worse?  The combo actions of Orpik/Neal or Zac.  And to be fair, all 3 have a history pulling stunts like this and all have been previously suspended for it.  There are no angels here.

Ok... it was dumb. However, it cost the team nothing. I think criticism is warranted, but some of this is excessive.

Rinaldo is an edgy player. He is no different from other players of the same mold. But you cannot erase all the positives he has been doing because of this one negative. When was the last time he did something like this? He has been playing pretty productive hockey, leads the team in hits and shows alot of energy. For what his role is, he is doing a good job.

I think if there is criticism to be handed out, it should be more on mega millionaire offensive players who don't contribute much based on their skill set (Hartnell anyone?)

Back to Rinaldo.... I recall Steve Downie destroying a certain player from Ottawa. After a hiatus, he is back, and is on the top producing line the Flyers have. If he melts down in the next game and does something typical of the reputation he built for himself, will we forget what he has done the last 12 or 13 games?

Agree for most of what you posted.  I like Zac as an edgy player.  It didn't cost the team THIS time, however that may not be the case next time.  I believe there is a time an place for everythng.  Yesterday's actions was not the time nor the place.  Have the Chief talk to him, maybe sit 1 game and move on.  I am not going to take away from the postives this kid brings to the ice this year.

On the Thornton incident, "you live by the sword, don't bitch when you fall on it"

When I heard the radio commentary, then read the headlins, I thought I was going to see Betuzzi Part Deux. Instead I see a guy get pulled off balnce then punched in the face with a gloved hand. He was obviously hurt, but they looked like jabs to me. I guess Thornton is a lot stronger than I thought. I was surprised that Orpik was out from those punches. I wonder if some of the injury was intensified by what looked like a skate to the head while he was down? I found it amusing that Bylsma was quoted saying he was concussed, but he was released and traveled with the team... weird.

I find it hard to ever sympathize with anything Pissburg, and this is no different. Considering that this incident occurred right after that punk Neal deliberately kneed Marchand in the head (which I thought looked worse the the punches), I'd say "penalty assessed". Pissburg loves to do these kinds of things, but they whine their a-ses off when it comes back on them

Mainly because we (flyer fans) were calling out the penguins and starting threads in their forum where as no Flyer fan made a thread in the Flyer forum against the dumb play of Rinaldo as similar to Thornton.

I guess for me I discussed it in the shout box then went to game chat, and was done with it.  I didn't have much else to say other than  "wtf how stupid can Rinaldo be" ?

Talk to him, then go from there. I don't even know why this happened. If it was as it appeared, and talking to him isn't enough, then sit him. However, if he knows he effed up, maybe that's enough

There is an old saying pick your fights. The other guy has a rep for agitating and just plain stirring things up. Rinaldo should have know this and acted accordingly.

@CoachX

I agree, Zac is being crucified way too much here. The other guy looked like he was going to go, then turtled. I want to know why before I slam Zac for what otherwise looked normal. How nice of the refs to give the actual instigator, the Star, no minutes.

I didn't want a thread started.  I simply stated that I found it ironic that of everything that went down yesterday, the first thread we see is Neal incident...of course started by a Flyers fan.  All well and good but you know as well as I do that anything controversial involving the Zack Attack gets Page 1 here followed by 100+ posts. Unless apparently when it's pretty obvious the Zack Attack acted like a punk.  Of course, anything remotely questionable by a Pen and presto!  Nothing on Thornton acting like a punk either.  The Wings fan did manage to get something in about this whole mess being Orpik's fault.  Insanity if I ever saw it.

This thread is hf101's way of rubbing my nose in shite for my observation. ;) Kinda petulant but whatever.

Wan't trying to start or insinuate anything, was just curious.  I kind of figured there was already some heated debate about certain actions by players of our respected teams yesterday.

No worries. Didn't think you were insinuating anything.
