Engelland hit on Abdelkader

Agree.  Time for Shanny to start increasing the # of days for these hits.  Might as well send a message starting with the Penguins,  ;)

Engelland strikes me as a guy who will get the message with 5.

Neal on the other hand...maybe.

This is one of those relex hits, he's got he what he thinks is lined up, realizes he's going to miss, and adjust in a most inappropriate way to get any piece of him.  Typically when that happens, you extend something, like a knee or arm.   In this case he over reaches with the shoulder/arm and pops the head directly.  Engelland probably understands he is in the wrong, but it doesn't matter, you have to make a statement on wreckless hits.

Wings fan, bang bang play. I think he deserves something for it, five games sounds about right but really we are wimpifying the game down aren't we?

I wouldn't have an issue with that, normally for something line that for a first timer, it would be 2 or 3, but having a history . . .. But Shanny's not getting his message heard as he's been pretty busy, so 5 games would not be out of the question.  This isn't wimpifying though, this wasn't a solid legal hit, this WAS a shot to the head, and even though it may be considered just wreckless, it can't happen.

I think Engelland will get more than 5. When he adjusted to make sure he was going to hit him he launches (NOT LEAPS) up through the hit making it a pretty devastating head shot. Engelland has always played on the hairy edge of legal as far as his hitting goes but this one was well over the line. If I were to have watched the game I probably could have picked out 1/2 dozen irritating hooks/slashes/interference that went uncalled by Abdelkader and Engelland figured he would get a good lick on JA to change his mind about his play. This is becoming a more pronounced problem with the Referees swallowing the whistle on should have been called penalties and it is leading directly to players taking issues into there own hands. I am not directing this specifically at the Pens either, this is a league wide problem that affects all teams on both sides.
