All I want for Christmas is a team that plays for 60 mins

Ok, so I'm about to watch my one live flyers game this year ( in Colorado )... but I've seen every game via center ice or nbc.

 

All I can say is this is one frustrating team.  The defense looks like it's always defending a power play... they never take the opportunity to hit when they can avoid it.... backing away seems their only tactic... ( well when they're thinking that is ).

 

I've got to say, esp with Chief as the coach, this team is getting softer and that's not good.

 

Never the less, myself and my two sons will pay our dues and go cheer for the flyers an Jan 2nd.  Looking forward to seeing a lot of orange in the stands and giving support in person.

 

I just hope that maybe they can decide to put in the effort for more than 10 mins.

I agree....on paper it looks like they have the talent, and once they can come out on a nightly basis and do it.....who knows how far they can go, i think we've seen as bad as they can suck!!!!!

 

Yet i'm not sure if we've seen how good they can be yet!!!! Maybe when Vinny returns. 

 

But it seems they are headed in the right direction...certainly slower than we'd all like....but it's coming and there is a lot of games left so i'm going to stay positive and hope they keep growing and winning!

 

To easy to be negative...i refer they gut wrenching angst!!!!!!!!!

 

They fired their coach, dug themselves out a hole and into a playoff spot let's hope they ain't done!!!!!!

 

After a 1-7 start the Flyers have gone 15-8-4 in their last 27 games...........i'll take it!!!!

In a horrible division though... I am glad they are above .500 and last night was a lot of fun but I still see this Team as a .500 team but I would love to be wrong.  

 

For Xmas I would like a sniper that plays wing, someonw to take Hartnells contract and for G to play every game like last night.   And a great defenseman too...   not asking too much right?

Well, yes.... all you need to do is watch the D play 5 on 5 and you'll get negative real fast

 

For example.... 5 on 5 and you're half a stick away from the puck.... do you apply pressure or do you back away to better screen your own goalie?

 

But I agree.... they are moving in the right direction.... when there's only one way to go.... that's easy.

 

After the first two periods last night I was ready to sell my tickets... now at least I'm going to the game! .... so there's hope.

Well let's hope they win the Avs are playing some damn good hockey so even though they are a west team(6th in conference but no way they'll pass the Hawks) it's still a good measuring stick.

Very true, but it seems that every year they don't win in Colorado, they've still made the playoffs.... but yes, would be nice to see them win for a change

You bet I'm a flyers fan... grew up and went to school in Philly ( fairmount )   ( went to Roman and Penn )  We bleed Orange Black and Green.... can't stand any of the Colorado teams... even when they're good... in fact we like it best when they choke !

The 60 minute game is a myth. An ideal, very difficult to fin in practice.

They're professionals but they're not playing against amateurs.

If you can play 40 minutes you're in good shape, as long as its the right 40 minutes.

But they're human too and we all know we've had days at the office when we just ain't there like we should be me included, but ain't none of us giving back no rent money....hell no it comes as the package part of the key is to have more days where it doesn't seem like a job even fun maybe....and that my friend is WINNING!!!!!

 

It's all it takes not matter what if you lose your last game of the season its a failure.

Yea, I'd go for a good 2nd and 3rd if i could get it... but even when the team is playing well ( 3rd period yesterday ) the D is scary bad.

 

As for the Eagles.... I'm afraid it's going to be yet another year when they're just good enough to not get good draft pics and not good enough to go deep... but I must admit, the season has been better than I expected.... and December games still mean something.... and we don't have to complain about Reid !!!

 

I hope Sunday night will be full of Eagle highlights.

Well stated, total agreement.

I will admit though, part of what makes this team so fun for me to watch is the ups and downs and the overcoming of what looked like an absolutely atrocious season at the onset.

Overcoming adversity gives you something to root for in addition to winning. It's a Philly complex I think.

After all Rocky's big achievement originally was just that he didn't get knocked out. Going the distance was his big win.

We want our teams to win, but we seem to crave for them to be like rocky and win in spite of not being that good.

I'd love to see this team shed that and just get good! In the mean time, I'll find their scrappy never give up overcoming a crap star endearing.

Here's hoping they continue turning this corner.

Not sure who you mean by "you guys"... I'll watch two Colorado games this year ( when the Flyers play them ).... I like getting Downie back.... hope he returns to "flyers" form.

 

As for not winning... yea, we can always watch to see the fights and try to stay in 1st place ( penalty mins )   Hope the D gets better ( for both Flyers and Eagles ).

Tonight's game was a perfect example.... they play 5 on 5 like they're defending a power play.  44 needs to retire and 5 just needs to figure out he weighs more than 90 lbs and can skate... I'm so tired of seeing him leaning instead of skating and being pushed around since he never hits anyone....  it's embarrassing to watch.   I'd rather see them bring the phantoms D in.... at least they try.

Hitting isn't Coburn's game, and I'd rather he not force it and move himself out of the play.  Let the guy play his style.  Coburn isn't nearly as bad as this forum can suggest.  He was moving very well in the game tonight, so I'm not sure what you mean by Coburn needing to skate better?

By skating better, I mean SKATE to the guy he's trying to defend... don't just reach in and pray his stick is going to do his work for him.... he has tons of opportunities to pin someone on the boards every game or move someone away from the net and he never does... it normally just takes one good hit by a "D" man to get control of the puck and start moving it in the right direction.... problem is, it only happens once or twice a game !
