AndyS Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 He just does not look sharp to me right now. Can't put my finger on it, but I don't have much confidence when he is in net. Quote
JackStraw Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 His mobility is not what you'd like to see. That said, he's getting the job done. Makes me a little nervous too but I don't know if there is a better option around for a backup goalie. Quote
flyerrod Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Personally, I think his hip problems are returning. His lateral movement is Leighton-esque at best. He minimzes his movement as much as he can when he plays and it is only readily appearent(his lateral speed) when he is forced to go side to side. I think he will finish the season as long as he is not pressed into more than just playing the second game of the back to backs. I don't think you will see him re-signed next season. Quote
jackhole Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Noticed this too. I think the lateral issue is the greatest difference between him and Mason. Perhaps we are all growing accustomed to seeing and understanding what 'good' goaltending is supposed to look like. Quote
AMMOnation Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 He just does not look sharp to me right now. Can't put my finger on it, but I don't have much confidence when he is in net.Sat 3rd row behind him last night his laterally movement just isn't there. Especially when already on his knees and going post to post. I have thought since a few games into the season his hip is acting up again. Maybe he played too many games early in the season, after surgery like that he was never bound to be a #1. Quote
Adamflyers Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Yeah, I noticed this last night too. It was hard not to. He just looked so slow to recover any time he went down and the lateral movement was dirt slow. There were a few times when I was screaming at the TV for him to get back into position. It def made me think he was not quite right. Quote
ruxpin Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I think jackhole is right. I think Emery 's limitations are simply more pronounced and noticeable after watching Mason so much. But last night in particular it kind of reminded me of when i was in college playing pickup basketball games and then coming home and doing the same in the driveway with my dad. God, he was suddenly so ridiculously slow! Quote

God, he was suddenly so ridiculously slow!Lol you could be right... I remember last season watching Quick early in the season on his knees, hugging the posts, taking every possible angle away. Then watching Bryzgalov and it was like wtf. So could the case with Mason vs Emery. I was so pissed I had those seats and had to watch Emery. Quote
mojo1917 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Doom has been saying Emery has lost a step and a half for about a month now, I haven't seen him play since then. but i was watching last night and he is right.Emery looks bad once he is down, glacially slow to recover and his lateral movement is labored at best. Pretty startling to see actually. that said, he's still not a bad player by any stretch, he reads the play well and is tough on the initial shot, i just wouldn't want to have him be "the guy" in a physical playoff series where guys are crashing the net or where the opposing centermen set up shop behind him. I do think his time as a viable NHL player is winding down rapidly. Quote
Irishjim Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 he played 90% of last nights game on his knees with half the net wide open..that works against the devils but a better offensive team will tear that up Quote

AndyS Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Apparently Timmy P disagrees with me. http://www.csnphilly.com/hockey-philadelphia-flyers/emerys-strong-play-kept-flyers-alive-vs-devils He thinks "Emery's strong play" was the difference???? Quote
Samifan Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I like Razor, think he is a good solider and partner for Mase. That being said I think Cuba Gooding Jr. wearing the dive suit from a Few Good Men could move better laterally that Ray right now. 1 Quote

Emery didn't have a bad game, he just looks bad in some situations. You can't really put the blame on him (at least not all of it) for either of the goals last night, both were back door jobs with Devils standing unmolested at the far post. Maybe Mason stops those but they're probably exceptional saves if he does. Otherwise Emery made some big saves when he needed to. Wouldn't necessarily say he was THE difference last night, but he did keep them in the game when they looked awful for the first period. 1 Quote
