hf101 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Here is a good read on Wellwood apparently he still has trouble walking but feels better in skates as his ankle is supported. However he is in pain when he skates hard. He has a good faith contract for the Phantoms this year is seems unlikely and unfortunate that he probably won't be able to play again in the NHL although it is still his goal. He is fortunate though to have an opportunity with the Spitfires, currently he is a volunteer coach. He was offered a job as a video coach before he signed a 1 yr deal with the Phantoms. http://www.courierpostonline.com/article/20140112/SPORTS04/301120062 I think if he gets back into the NHL again is will be via coaching. Yeah the biggest issue is the nerve damage, that is almost impossible to over come....not familar with it with hockey players a lot but i've seen the nerve damage end the careers of two Eagles players. i'm praying for this kid i hope he over comes it and gets his life back again. idahophilly Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Very sad. I really liked him and his speed. But, when one door closes many times a second opens.... Quote
flyercanuck Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Not good news for a player who's borderline career hinges on his incredible speed. Hopefully things go well for him, but it doesn't look good. Quote
jammer2 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 The odds are stacked against Welly, but if anyone can overcome incredible odds, it's that guy. Welly made 2 years of my life an incredible roller coaster of joy and fun...for that, I will forever be indebted. Quote
