pilldoc
Just when you want to keep b itching and moaning about this team, they go and put up a good performance against the Red Wings. Now granted this is a vastly undermanned Red Wing team. I can't remember the last time they shutout Detroit. (2001, Roman Cechmanik) Mason played an incredible game. Does this win solve all the problems....no. However it is a very nice win.
TedZep
I certainly enjoyed it. Mason was pretty decent, pretty decent indeed.
flyerrod
They played for 58 minutes. Until the last PP they had where they got extremely cavalier with the puck, they played like a winning team. Downie back with Read and Cooter and they pitch a shut out....who could have ever imagined that would happen......
intheslot
Picked up two points that they needed on a team the should have beaten.. Little steps .
pilldoc
all i ask for is effort. Put out 110% effort and you lose..well that is the way the cookie crumbles. Play with little or no effort and this is where blue collar fans like in Philly get pisssed.
OccamsRazor
Picked up two points that they needed on a team the should have beaten.. Little steps . Exaclty...keep it in perspective...one small step up the HUGE staircase...they need confidence and this help but it will carry only so far they need to keep their collective noses to the grind stone. Still a lot of work to do but this was a nice confidence builder.
Philly29
They also can not let this go to there heads either... They can't think "well when we put effort into this we win so will coast until we half to try" Or think it will magically come to them now. That is not going to work against all of California.... This shows you how good this team can be when they give a F***. I could not catch the game...what a friggen game to miss......... jack ass Edited January 29, 2014 by Philly29

jackhole
Pill - Completely agree. Philosophical question for you. Which is better/worse? A team that doesn't give100% much, but when it does. wins games. Or, a team that gives 100% and looses most of those games?
WingNut722
That was an outstanding performance by the Flyers last night and an outstandingly poor performance by the Red Wings. The Flyers were everywhere. They passed, they hit, they skated, they scored, and they won. Simple as that. Detroit looked slow and flat-footed all night (well though two anyway...I turned it off out of disgust, but judging by the boxscore, Things didn't get a whole lot better. Detroit had just come of a very good homestand, taking 7 out of 10 points from some very good teams. I don't understand why they didn't feel the need to move last night. Too many cheesesteaks on the way to the WFC? Having a lot of our top guys out certainly leaves a rather large whole in the production, but they've been out for a long time and they've still managed to find a way to win, against teams like Chicago. I would think that one of them would at least be able to score. I don't mind losing, especially to a team that looked the way the Flyers looked. They deserved that win. But some minimal effort would be nice to at least try to make a game out of it.

I for one would probably favor a team that give 100% all the time. By giving 100% everytime it shows the character of the individual and/or team. I guess I just would not trust a team that does not give 100% all the time. That one time you need them them to give it their all and they don't.....well that would tick me off. I played college baseball. Our team was not that good but we gave it our all and that is all our coach could ask given the limited amount of talent we had. You need to have a good work ethic to be successful, if you constantly take shifts/games off, how is that a good work ethic?
murraycraven
the effort was there and they looked like they were up on their skates pushing the tempo which was nice. Mason was great in net and I have to say that Fluke Schenn actually played a good game for once.
OccamsRazor
The Flyers were everywhere. They passed, they hit, they skated, they scored, and they won. It was a great game but don't get me wrong i'm happy a win is win and God knows we need em, but it's not the same beating and undermanned team like yall had however we needed a confidence booster and i hope that serves it's purpose. It would have just felt better beating yall healthy....but it is what it is. Good game and who knows they may meet again in the playoffs. They've got some talent, glaring weaknesses on D, a decent goalie, but are still growing. The Richards and Carter led teams - the cup run team in particular - now that was a bipolar team. jammer2
Totally impossible to predict what this team will do. Just when you think all is lost, that they are hopelessly crappy, they shock you and go on a tear.....and just when you think the tear is for real, they go and stink it up again. Vegas must love these guys....lol.
