Jam1986 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 The sad is I sat through most of the game. Came away with this if Wings few post hit's and few close misses they win! The kept us pinned in and even with out their stars they know how to play with the puck. I would trade size to them if we could get either up front skill or d help. See that's what you need a AHL guys can step right and not look out of place Quote
Jam1986 Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 Three huge games i'll take 3 to 4 that would be nice! Quote

lespauljr2006 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Mason was on last night, great to see #35 play well.... Quote
jammer2 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Well, to put things in proper perspective, the Wings have not won in Philly since the finals in 97.....so Zetts and Datsuyk missing, yeah....but we OWN them in our house!! The Wings did the same thing to us in Detroit, think it was 11 years since we broke the streak last year. Quote

I checked out the Flyers draftees too, and WOW, I never realized how many 1st round duds we picked. I'm sure it's similar with most teams (Detroit's record was just as bad if not worse), but there are some serious busts in that list. Mike StothersSteve SmithGlen SeabrookeKerry Huffman (though he did play 5-6 seasons... don't remember him much. would he be considered a disappointment for 20th overall?)Darren RumbleClaude BoivinRyan SittlerJason BowenMaxime OuelletJeff Woywitka I didn't know that Ryan and Darryl Sittler were the first father and son both picked in the top 10 of the NHL draft. Poulin20 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) Kerry Huffman (though he did play 5-6 seasons... don't remember him much. would he be considered a disappointment for 20th overall?) He sucked. I never liked him as a defenseman and was not worth a 1st round pick. At that time Doug Crossman was also a big defensive liability but at least he had a huge offensive upside especially on the PP. Huffman did not. He was one of the few pieces I was happy to see go in the Lindros trade. But in true flyers style we made sure to get him back later in his career! Edited January 29, 2014 by Poulin20 Quote
jammer2 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 @Poulin20 Would love to see a stat for re-acquiring players, the Flyers have to lead the league in that. Quote
radoran Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 You gotta beat the teams you're supposed to beat if you want to succeed in this league. The Flyers should have beaten the Wings without Datsyuk/Zetterberg and facing a backup goalie. And they did. 12 points out there before the Olympics. Any predictions? Let's set an over/under at 7? jammer2 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 @radoran Not sure overall with the 12 pts, but I only see 2 pts (if that) out of the Cali trip. San Jose, LA and Anaheim....that is a tough road trip. Quote

San Jose, LA and Anaheim....that is a tough road trip. That's the challenge, isn't it? That's the test for this squad. They have to show a consistent ability to compete with - if not beat - better teams. I'll be happy if I see some real "compete" in them even if they lose. If the scores are lopsided, I would expect the front office to look to shake something up before the break. Quote
murraycraven Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 credit where credit is due... you can't control who is playing on the other Team's roster. They played well and were up on there skates last night. Mason was great as well. Quote

I am cautiously leaning towards the "over" on 7 as well. Will be interesting. Flyers are never dull, that's for sure. Quote

If the scores are lopsided, I would expect the front office to look to shake something up before the break. Hopefully they will be skating like they did against the Wings. That's the only way they have a fighting chance against those tough Cali teams. That's the thing with the Flyers, when it comes to skating legs and energy level, it's anyone's guess which team shows up. One thing for sure, Mason will have to play out of his mind to pull off multiple wins against those teams. On a positive note, the Flyers have played their best hockey when Downie, Cooter and Read are clicking....and they were certainly clicking against Detroit. If any of those Cali games are back to backers it's an automatic loss, Emery will get creamed by any of those teams. Quote
OccamsRazor Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I checked out the Flyers draftees too, and WOW, I never realized how many 1st round duds we picked. I did and t the same time i really didn't it is shocking really....but it helps to look at what i consider a great drafting team like the Wings too and find some relief know it wasn't exclusive to just the Flyers the Wing too like i'm sure many teams have drafted bust. Just to be the Flyer's look like more and BIGGER...but it is even more key to draft these guys and also actually develop them not just trade them away and they then blossom for that patient team that traded for they....that maybe hurts even more. I hope Homer has learned that..i hope. Time will tell i hope we keep the BIG 3 (Morin, Hagg and Ghost) and let then eventually wear the orange and black. Quote
