pilldoc Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Yes I know it is only the end of January.Yes I know there is ALOT of hockey to be played from now to June for both the NHL and Juniors.Assume the Flyers miss playoffs and pick anywhere from 10-15. Based on the other thread....who do you pick? Defense? LW/RW? Center? Goalie? I listed a bunch of name along with links to various prospect lists....Go to it. http://www.hockeyforums.net/index.php/topic/61300-time-to-think-draft/#entry164375 Note: Mods...please do not move. I am trying to have this list be Flyers specific. Thanks. Quote
doom88 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Depending on best player available, I'd like Philly to draft a sniper - double points if a LW. If that's not in the cards, another defenseman that can skate would be nice for the pipeline. The ability to play defense is required in my opinion, no Mike Green types. Quote
doom88 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 @OccamsRazor I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you there. Quote
ruxpin Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Can we draft a GM? Seriously, it occurs to me that with most teams trying to lock up their good defensemen that it may be better to draft defensemen and sign free agent forwards later (or end up with enough good defensemen that you can use one to trade for good forwards). Because the drafting forwards and trading for our signing good defensemen ain't gonna work 1 Quote
ruxpin Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 But in general, doom88 is right that you take the best available Quote
OccamsRazor Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 @OccamsRazor I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you there. Kasperi Kapanen I say, i say boy !!!!!!in my best Foghorn leghorn voice!!!!! Quote
jammer2 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 If we suck bad enough, and that is not a big reach....I'd love to have Nick Ritchie in the O&B. Great size, already has an NHL body at 6'2 and 230. Strong on the puck, great skater for a big man, tough as nails, lots of offensive upside...he has Flyers type of player written all over him. We could really use a big bruising scoring LW'er also, would be a match made in heaven. Quote
ZeZel25 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 1) Nick Ritchie... In the 2nd or 3rd round, insert a kid who can drop the gloves. Seems that's Homers style. Not sure who the best young fighter is coming to the draft but we'll get one Quote
murraycraven Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I think I would take Doom's approach as well. Take the best available at the time of the pick. Quote
doom88 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 With the time it takes to develop NHL players, the needs at draft time may not be the same when the draftees are ready to play. Quote
ruxpin Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Again, I would draft defensemen high. Much easier to fill other needs later for a team willing to throw cash around. It seems the "throw cash" doesn't seem quite enough on defense Quote

It seems the "throw cash" doesn't seem quite enough on defenseI'd be ok with that to from what we've seen quality Dmen are like Gold and they just arwn't unless its for a king ransom...and well they've tried that route and it just didn't work so it's time to stop eyeballing what in your neighbors back yard and go the steps it takes to get your own and it starts by find a quality scout to help with that, do your homework and bit the bullet and get the guy you want/need.Now with that said you also can't go about it as if Morin and Hagg am d Ghost are going to make it. I think its nice to stock prospects but don't just move on and count on them till they actually make it. Ok back to work that is my 2cents...... Quote

You use high draft picks on defensemen several years in a row, you're bound to hit pay dirt once or twice just out of dumb luck, right? Oh wait, we're talking about the Flyers so chances are the pay dirt guy would buy a porsche or go boating or some crap. Too Soon? Quote

Man I hope the big 3 panout out...Morin, Hagg and Ghost...hel I hope they hang on to the to find out... 1 Quote
intheslot Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 I pick the best player that was still on the board ,leaning towards D . Quote
TimKerrFan12 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 F - Nikolaj Ehlers - Halifax Mooseheads - Speed and amazing puck skills and not afraid to hit although he is not that big. Seen him make some Drouinesque moves. I was the same guy that wanted the Flyers to draft Voracek a few years back. Seen this guy play a lot and imo he will be a good one. Quote
ruxpin Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 F - Nikolaj Ehlers - Halifax Mooseheads This is why I like guys like you on a hockey board. You bring up people I wouldn't have any idea of on my own. (No sarcasm, truly meant as a compliment and a "thank you.") 1 Quote
TimKerrFan12 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Thanks Ruxpin....much appreciated. Quote

Nice tip TK....will have to keep an eye out for him! Maybe catch him on a Sportsnet game of the week or something. What position does he play? Where is he currently ranked? Quote
TimKerrFan12 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 @jammer2@pilldoc@ruxpin I was going to add a bit more info on Ehlers. This is his first year playing in North America. He is from Denmark and played part of last season in a mens league in Switzerland. He actually played on a team with Seguin and Kane part of last year. He said Kane and Seguin helped him make his decision to play Major Junior. The Mooseheads drafted him 6th overall in the CHL Euro draft last Summer. He is leading all rookies in the QMJHL this year with GP 48, G 30, A 41, Pts 71. Like I was saying, he is fast and has awesome puck skills. He doesn't shy away from any area of the ice. I think he would be a great pick. Quote
