Will Neal get suspended?

James Neal took his third diving penalty of the season tonight...  by rule he has a hearing and deserves a 1 game suspension.  My personal opinion?  I hope he does get suspended.  He's too good for all the shenanigans he's been pulling on the ice.

@Polaris922   Has anyone ever been suspended with this 3 violation rule?  I don't recall it ever happening in the past. If he does get suspended for this, all the refs will be looking for it very closely, and he may just get called for diving when he didn't even do it...a call by reputation if you will. If I was Blysma, I'd make sure he stops this immediately, or it might come back to haunt them during a playoff series.

@jammer2

I'm listening to Phil Bourque talking about the inconsistencies in officiating in the league.  How there were several incidents tonight that could've been called both ways but weren't, yet they call that one which was admittedly a borderline call.  That is often called a hook regardless of the arm clamping on the stick, but tonight it was called both ways.  He pointed out the officials always have a listing of players from each team with previous penalties for diving, and that it might very well increase your chances of getting called for it again.  I hope Neal gets a suspension.  Maybe it'll drive him.

The officiating was rough tonight.  The Rangers won fair and square, outplaying the Pens, but the interference we're seeing in the league again is an issue.  Maybe it's a slacking off going into the Olympic break, but every game I've watched recently for ANY teams has been full of interference, and a lack of control by the officials.  I dunno why, it's just different right now.

Good on you for saying any game. You're absolutely right about the interference. It's getting obnoxious again

@ruxpin  I've noticed an uptick in the interference also. It's *almost* gone back to pre-crackdown levels. Either call it like it is written in the rule book, or do away with the rule altogether....but for the love of God, give us some consistency!!  This is not supposed to be a cyclical type of thing. I blame the bumbling Betteman for this wishy washy crap!!

  He is, along with Sellane and just about everyone on the Ducks roster (They must teach it in the organization out there) one of the best in the game at it. Steve Shutt used to be a God at drawing penalties by diving with the Canadien Dynasty, probably the best ever.

  I really do not mind it, the refs catch it a fair share and other times because he has such a reputation for diving they don't call a real penalty when someone wraps him up because they think he is embellishing.

  I like unique players, so many of them are cookie cutter players, interchangeable and with helmets and visors you cannot tell one player from another because they play essentially the same style. I like Neal, like hating him with your Pens, would kill to see him in a Wings uniform (For GogiliskI? Really? and you got them to throw in Niskanen??????) that is why I like Pavel and Kronwall and Neal and Matt Martin and Cody Fransen and anyone who plays the game a little different than everyone else.

Ha ha, a gem of a trade by Ray Shero.  At the time, many criticized the Pens for getting rid of Gogo for a young and criticized Neal, and Nisky was thought of as just a salary dump by the Stars since they were so down on him.   Retrospectively, what a deal it was, Neal is exactly what we wanted, and Nisky has been much more than we ever expected.

@nossagog

  This summer HF ran a round robin for best GM in the game and my vote all along went to Shero. He is the master of the throw in, as in Yeah we can work out a deal with you for Neal but you have to throw in Niskanen. Or the by the way give us Dupuis from the late lamented thrashers. Or Brandon Sutter. If I was a rival GM and saw Shero calling on the caller ID I think I would send it straight to voicemail, lol.

  See, I can say good things about the Pens. ;)  I just love to hate them but respect the talent and the front office skill.

Like I said in the other thread,  I can appreciate a good healthy rivalry hatred, but any arguments need to still be made with facts, not feelings, and you do a good job presenting clear reasonable arguments(usually :ph34r: ).

If I remember right Shero had a bad draw in that tournament, I think he went up against Stan Bowman or Dean Lombardi in the quarters... I would have put him through to at least the semis on the Staal trade alone. Jordan wanted to go one place and Shero got Doumolin and Sutter, with no leverage? Incredible.

Rejean got jobbed by the draw .

So Neal gets word that there won't even be a phone call in regards to  suspension talks. I wish the league would explain this.  Did they look and decide one or more of the "dives" were not really dives?

If not, they should.  I/M/H/O, "diving" is the obvious fall to the ice when you are barely touched of the head snap when the other guy's stick is 3' away.  Holding the stick is..well...holding the stick.  That should be the call.  Chances are if the stick is up under the arms there is going to be a call anyway.  I really don't have a problem with a player trying to make sure they get the call and if they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar a la James Neal? So be it.
