flyercanuck
A whole day after talking about how the Pronger trade left the Flyers future tank empty and how he'll never do that again...apparently Paul Holmgren has an offer on the table for Ryan "my best years were 4 years ago" Kesler. Kesler is still a good player but we're not kesler away from winning a cup, and trading 2 or 3 important pieces of your future for a breaking down 29 year old poor mans Mike Richards is not good general managing. Get a grip Holmgren, and please don't gut this team yet again.

jammer2
@flyercanuck The whole Flyers management group seems to get fixated on a certain individual, and can't let go until he's in Philly. Personally, I'm wondering how much Clarke has to do with this whole thing, we all know he's always secretly loved Kesler, after that attempt to steal him. Pffffffttttt..... Bah, could be a big smokescreen, or a way to drive up the price for the Pens. That would be a smart move for the Pens and it could very well put them over the top. I still don't think they win the Cup this year, though. It would not be a smart move for the Flyers.
flyercanuck
@jammer2 Or it's Holmgren...."OK, I learned my lesson from the Pronger deal, you just can't trade that much away for a player who's on the decline...Hey, is that a center that's available?" But with the injuries on D, and Fleury likely to do his usual playoff meltdown, and the need for wingers, is getting another center the smart move for Pitt? But I'm all for them trading Sutter, Despres, Pouliot a 1st and whatever else the 'Nucks want.

murraycraven
Let's hope it is nothing more than a big smokescreen to drive up the price for the Pens and Hawks. Did anyone hear what that "package" was to acquire Kesler?
flyercanuck
@murraycraven B Schenn, Laughton 1st? I wouldn't trade Schenn even for him. I know Kesler is worth more right now, but looking ahead, I'd rather have Schenn.
DaGreatGazoo
This is what Servalli mentioned the Pens were offering, so the Flyers would have to TOP this!! NO ****ING WAY. The report says the Penguins have offered Brandon Sutter, Simon Despres, and their first round pick. In such hot pursuit of Kesler, Penguins general manager Ray Shero has even softened his stance on letting go top defensive prospect Derrick Pouliot, a first round pick in 2012 @flyercanuck--I would argue that Kesler isn't even worth more than Schenn right now! He makes a lot more, and only has 5 more goals this season. He's also had a ton of injuries the last few seasons. Rumors out of the Olympics were that he broke his hand there. Granted he has leadership/intangibles, but to be blunt, the Flyers don't need those. They freaking need D-men! Even with the assumption it will be a late 1st. OK w/ Sutter, Depres and a 2nd. Not AT ALL OK with Pouliot being included. He's Letang insurance. Of course, if they win a Cup.... Kesler would bring an edge that they are sorely lacking.
flyercanuck
@DaGreatGazoo Kesler plays about 6 minutes more a game than Schenn as well...making their point totals even closer. take into account ones 22, the other 29 and makes double.

jammer2
Personally, I would not even trade away Laughton straight up for Kesler. His best production years are behind him, he makes 5 mill a year and is injury prone...ha ha...this must be a bad joke. Hey, I know, let's pair Vinny with Kesler, and trade for another aging center so we can have a whole overpaid, all center line. Yep, this how you build a winner.....NOT!!! We need to be sellers, not buyers you DIMWIT!

I don't think...at least I hope...Shero will not make that deal. I think he will concede a 1st, Sutter and Depres (or Dumoulin). Not a 1st, Sutter and Pouliot. Aside from Maatta, Pouliot has the most promise of all the defensemen in the Pens' system. And Maatta isn't really in the system anymore.
