RonJeremy Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Why couldn't we get this guy, he was worth a gamble for a second rounder for sure... yet we gave up a second and third for McDonald who wants huge $$ and who we may not be able to sign David RundbladHometown:Lycksele SwedenTeam:Chicago BlackhawksCurrently Playing In:Pro Birthday: 1990-10-08 Position: D Eligible for draft: 2009 Shoots: Left Drafted: 2009 Height: 6-2 Acquired: Trade with Phoenix, 2014 Weight: 198 lbs. Drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the 2009 NHL Draft.2009-10: Rundblad started with Skellefteå J20, scoring 4 points in 3 games before making the big club and playing 47 games with. In his time there, Rundblad would score 1 goal and 12 assists with Skellefteå. He would also play a role with Sweden’s Bronze Medal Team at the World Juniors, scoring 5 points in 6 games.2010-11: Rundblad would be acquired via trade in the 2010 draft for the 16th overall pick in 2011. He would go on to register 11 goals and 50 points in 55 games. When asked about Rundblad, Ottawa GM Bryan Murray had this to say: "When we traded for him, we knew that he was a good player. We gave up a first-round pick wondering if we could get that good a player in the draft last year and we felt we couldn’t. He went back and he played extremely well. He’s a high-skill guy. I think the fact that he was able to play where he played was great. The other thing we knew is that he was going to play for Anders Forsberg, who had scouted for us prior to that. We knew he was going to get lots of ice time, lots of development and, obviously, he did a heck of a job."2011-12: Rundblad made his NHL debut with the Senators, playing primarily bottom-pairing minutes. He was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in mid-December for center Kyle Turris.2011-12: Rundblad made his NHL debut with the Senators, playing primarily bottom-pairing minutes. He was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in mid-December for center Kyle Turris. In 24 games for the Senators he scored 1 goal with 3 assists and was minus-11 with 6 penalty minutes. Rundblad made his debut with the Coyotes in December and appeared in one other game before being demoted to AHL Portland in mid-January. He was re-called in March and played six games total with Phoenix; finishing with 3 assists and minus-one and averaging 14 minutes of ice time. He was with the Coyotes for the playoffs but did not appear in any games. In 30 games with Portland he scored 7 goals with 9 assists and was minus-18 with 27 penalty minutes.2012-13: Rundblad appeared in eight games for the Coyotes in his second season with Phoenix — spending most of the year with Phoenix AHL affiliate Portland. He had 1 assist and was -5; averaging 13:44 minutes of ice time. Rundblad led Portland defensemen with 39 points, scoring 9 goals with 30 assists in 50 games, and was +8 with 26 penalty minutes. The Pirates finished second in the Atlantic Division and were swept by Eastern Conference champion Syracuse in the first round with two of the three losses in overtime. Rundblad scored 1 goal and was -1 in the three-game series. Rundblad was re-signed to a two-year contract by the Coyotes as a restricted free agent in July, 2013. Talent AnalysisRundblad is an offensive-minded defenseman with good size and excellent skills. He has good vision and carries the puck with confidence. A top notch player on the powerplay, Rundblad’s best attribute is his ability to distribute the puck quickly and efficiently while also being able to launch a hard point shot. Rundblad's defensive game was formerly a weakness but he has made great strides since joining the AHL and looks more and more comfortable with each passing game. FutureRundblad really had a spectacular 2012-13 season with Portland and quashed a lot of doubt about his defensive game. While he will have trouble cracking a very strong Phoenix defense, he is going to at least be in the conversation for the final spot on the NHL depth chart and could be first on the call-up list.Rundblad was dealt by the Phoenix Coyotes to the Chicago Blackhawks for a draft pick in March of 2014 Quote
jammer2 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 @RonJeremy If he is so promising, why did the Yotes give up on him for a 2nd??....after giving away a potential 1st line center in Turris....at the very least Turris is a very good 2nd line center, with the upside to go point per game player in a few years, maybe even making the oft injured Spezza a tradeable commodity. You would think the Yotes would want to hold on to him, to kinda *prove* they didn't mess up on the deal....guess the old GM made the deal, so the new GM had no problem moving him, because it was not his move....only thing that makes sense here. RonJeremy Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 I read an article that said PHX is very deep on defense, it said Runblad has made great strides in his defensive game ,which was his weak point and he put up good numbers in the AHL. Considering the garbage we have gotten for our seconds rounders over the years, I would have gambled on this kid, his offensive game seems like a good fit for us. Quote

OK, realistic argument based on historical perspective, don't necessarily agree, but like how you backed your stuff up!! Quote
