radoran Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 From Teh Twitters Sam Carchidi @BroadStBull MacDonald says his agent and Homer have been talking about an extension. He wants to stay. I'm still in the "no need to rush" phase, but do think MacDonald can be a solid addition for a longer term - pending details. Still don't see why he'd be worth more than $4-$4.5M a season. Quote
flyercanuck Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 @radoran Ya, we've kind of beaten this to death already. But I'm with you, tops at 4.5. Again, he has to look at playing with an up and coming team as a bonus over the Isles. And he's gone from being a top pairing guy down a few notches. Quote
murraycraven Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I like his game but as we have stated many a time around here" no more that 4-4.5M per year. And please do not give hime a NMC! Quote
radoran Posted April 10, 2014 Author Posted April 10, 2014 Ya, we've kind of beaten this to death already Jus' passin' along the "news" And he's gone from being a top pairing guy down a few notches. And he wasn't a particularly effective top pairing guy anyway... Seriously, 11 points on the Isles PP with Tavares, Vanek and Okposo??? Jeebus, a potted plant should get 11 points in 63 games on that PP Quote
flyercanuck Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 @radoran Ya, I'm glad he wants to sign. He makes us a better team. Not by any huge leaps and bounds, but he's an improvement. The thing is if we don't sign him, it was kind of a waste of picks. But like you mentioned, he was only a top pairing due to lack of talent on Long Island. And I could probably put up 5 or 6 points playing with Tavares on the pp....and be a -473. 1 Quote
murraycraven Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Sorry... reminded me of a funny episode! Quote
radoran Posted April 10, 2014 Author Posted April 10, 2014 Sorry... reminded me of a funny episode! MANBEARPIG! I considered just throwing this into the other thread, but thought that the "news" aspect made it worthy. Quote
Bertmega Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I fully expect 8 years 4.5mm per year with a full NMC/NTC.... I can see it now.... 1 Quote
brelic Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 The fact that he wants to extend is a good sign because a) he likes it here, and b) he's passing up the UFA market. He's a good kid from Nova Scotia - we're usually pretty reasonable peeps down here. I think he takes $4.25M for 5 years. Quote

If you want to be certain what he's NOT getting, ask Rick to make a prediction Quote

Maybe i'm wrong but i'm not giving him 4.5 a year. He's no better then a 2nd paring guy IMO. I don't see this power play specialist either. hats going to partially kill Holmgren in negotiation is the horrible contract given to Streit, he might want that salary, if he does, BYE BYE. Quote
flyercanuck Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 @ One thing in his favour is good defenceman are hard to find. Great ones are almost impossible. One thing in Phillys favour is pp specialist, he isn't. Quote
JackStraw Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/flyers/20140411_Flyers__goal_is_to_re-sign_MacDonald.html "He definitely adds an element that is very good," coach Craig Berube said. "He moves the puck well and he's got very good composure with it, too. When I look at our 'D,' we've got a puck-mover on every pair that gets the puck up ice. It's a nice combination to have." Now, general manager Paul Holmgren is doing everything under his power to make sure MacDonald's stay in Philadelphia isn't limited to just one playoff run. "I'm really excited to have gotten traded here. It's a big opportunity for me to get into the playoffs again and try to take a run at it. There's some teams that you identify that you'd like to be a part of - and definitely, this was one that I was hoping to go to." "There's always the lure of becoming unrestricted and being able to talk to every team," MacDonald said. "With that being said, I know Philly is a great organization and now I know a great group of guys. It's not going to be 'OK, I really want to go to free agency.' I think it's more about if I'm a good fit for the team and if both sides agree this is going to be a place that I'm going to be for years to come." Quote
mojo1917 Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 @JackStraw that quote makes A-Mac seem like a pretty level headed guy, maybe he can be had without breaking the bank. Quote
flyercanuck Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 @JackStraw Sounds optimistic that he'll be reasonable and wants to be there. Quote
doom88 Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Playing for the Islanders can change a guys' priorities. Quote
