The Crosby Show

Recommended Posts

I don't get it....he is good but he is not that good.........I guess this means that Ovechkin should have gotten the Selke.............

What else does he have to do to show he's that good? He *is* that good.

He got the Hart Trophy why again? You are telling me the League MVP did not make it past the second round of the Playoffs yet he was the most important player in the NHL? Sorry, I don't buy it. I am surprised that he got the Lindsay as that was voted by his peers........I still think that "Regis" was stuffing the ballot boxes......among other things....

The playoffs have no bearing on the Hart. It's for regular season performance and the ballots are cast before the playoffs begin.

The Hart is for the most valuable player to his team; not the most important player in the NHL.

That's why Giroux and Getzlaf were also nominated. The Flyers would have been in lottery draft if it weren't for Giroux.

But here is the thing..The Pens can win without Crosby.  With  the likes of Malkin, MAF, Kunitz, and Letang (pre-injury) the Pens have talent all over.  I don't think he is "the" most important player on that team.

We all know...how Giroux goes...so goes the Flyers.  That was very evident last year.  Not denying Crosby is a great player and is important to his team, IMO, I think the Pens could win without Crosby because of the the supporting cast.

Yeah, I don't disagree with you. I remember a thread on exactly this topic a few months back, and the Pens guys made some very compelling arguments too.

So, the Flyers without Giroux are out of the playoffs for sure. I think a team's place in the standings has an impact too. So, it's one thing to be the most valuable player to your team, but it's quite another to be able to lift that team into competitive territory, and Crosby does that for the Pens more than Giroux for the Flyers, I would say. The Pens are MORE of a contender and MORE dangerous because of Crosby than the Flyers on a relative level.

Does that make sense?

Ok, I'll bite. Who's the most important player on the Pens?

What we really need is a thread on the Flyers forum with all of the Pens fans saying how much Giroux didn't even deserve to be nominated.

I'm sure that would go well.

I take it by the ninja that there was such a thread? I don't remember that.

Yeah ... it does make sense.  I'm just looking at the POV that like you said..if "G" is out of the line-up then the Flyers are toast.  If Crosby is out, yeah it hurts, but they still, for the most part, find a way to win.  Agree..with Crosby in the line up, that they are a more dangerous team.

I think collectively they are all important.  I think Malkin & Letang are just as important as Crosby IMO. Can't really single any one player out.

Guess the guys who play with him don't know as much as Flyers fans? ;)

Dude had a monster year,  carried that team for 82 games.

I have no problem with his winning those awards for last season, he was significantly and  statistically better in all the important categories.

I'm glad his name isn't on the cup again too.

I would be fine if he won 10 more Harts and 8 more Lindsays so long as his name is on the cup only twice ( as a player )

Edit:  I forgot he lost the first time in the finals... i meant once , yeah only one time for the lost Jonas brother.

Mojo, don't just hand him a second Cup. The league already did that with his first

I guess the guys who play with him don't want to listen to him cry about missing out on an award......... ;)

I'm sure that was the priority for all the players in the NHL. We should have an award for fans along those lines too, so Flyers fans who whine trying to discredit other teams' star players could get recognized as well. ;)

About the "other players" thinking, Crosby was far and wide the MVP on this team. He played with Gibbons and "insert AHL name here" for quite a few games and STILL won the Art Ross by a good margin. The Pens were decimated by injury all season yet led the Conference the first half of it. Mostly because of Crosby.

Bottom line is the Pens win a lot without him, but this past season he clearly carried them all the way up till the last few games of the season. The true story is told by the other players saying so. By league wide majority.

Mine's better.  The "crying Crosby" jokes are older than the Flyers' last Cup. ;)

Do I really have to go sifting through clips...again? Seriously though, you and Polaris have your panties in a wad because I said I personally did not think the Golden Child had done enough to warrant the Hart Trophy. I don't think Giroux should have gotten it either even though stats would prove him to be a more valuable piece for wins than Crosby is. To me, Getzlaf should have gotten this award hands down.
