brelic
If true - and LeBrun is a reliable source - this is as puzzling as the Vinny signing. Anyone know what Hextall could have been thinking? It almost feels like it would be a B. Schenn replacement - get rid of Vinny (freeing up 4 years), get Richards for 1-2 years as a 2nd/3rd line center, deal Schenn+ for an impact defenseman or top line winger. Would that make any sense? Andrew @AndrewTOU_THG 1mBrad Richards had "solid interest" from the Flyers, per @Real_ESPNLeBrun. Ultimately, he signed with Chicago. brelic
Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Haha, that was my first reaction! I'm just trying to figure out if Hextall is just like the others, or if there was some strategy behind it
DaGreatGazoo
I've been saying for weeks, sign Richards, give him #18, and I'm back in business with my Richards jersey. Now, regarding the impact to the team. No. NO. NO!

This scenario makes sense to me. Whether they could have pulled all that off, is a good question, but I can at least see that happening....Richards at 1 year and 2 million isn't a bad deal. I was just surprised Chicago signed him, given their cap issues.
off_the_post
If they traded B Schenn for an impact dman then they could have slotted VLC in a 2C and not needed B. Richards. To me this is easier since VLC seems hard to move as one would suspect.

That's a good point - though I suspect it might have more to do with getting out of a 4 year commitment to a non-core player.

King Knut
What troubles me most about it is how terrible Richards was in the playoffs. Why the hell would they want him? Of course if you could get him for 2 million like the hawks did, why not? If true - and LeBrun is a reliable source - this is as puzzling as the Vinny signing.
