jammer2
A fair deal for both sides. At this point, it's doubtful Franson will be brought back for 2015, so the Leafs will get 100% effort as Franson will be effectively trying out for his next team....and setting his pay scale at the same time. This should all inevitably = motivated.
flyercanuck
@jammer2 From the way he's been treated, I expect them to trade him this season.
jammer2
@jammer2 From the way he's been treated, I expect them to trade him this season. I was thinking the same thing. Now that the element of the unknown (ie salary) he is actually known, it makes him much easier to trade. A team looking for a decent pp qb may be interested, especially with no long term deal in place. If he sucks or has an attitude problem, there is no long term commitment. Trade deadline may be where the Leafs get the best bang for their buck.
yave1964
He had one heck of a first half last year, his play from the point was top notch. He was just one of the players who went south come spring, he did absolutely zilch down the stretch. I think he simply wore down, he always strikes me as a guy who 15-16 minutes a game and running the power play might best serve him instead of playing 20 plus a night. Let Phaneuf eat the big minutes and play Franson in the right spots and he wont wear down.
jammer2
@yave1964 The Leafs will probably have Petter Granberg, Matt Finn and Stuart Percy buried in the AHL to start the year. I have not seen Granberg play, but have heard some very promising things about him. Percy should be a very nice 2 way type, while Finn is a defense first type. There will have to be injuries or a few trades before the way is unblocked for some of these kids. I'm gonna go ahead and guess all 3 of these kids get a sniff of the show this year. jammer2
According to the Toronto Sun, the Leafs now have 7.7 million of cap space left after the Franson signing. They still have to sign back up James Reimer and offensive d-man Jake Gardiner. The Leafs should *potentially* have a few million left to sign a low risk UFA after they get their own guys signed up.
