hf101
Vanek is apparently a witness in the ongoing investigation of three Rochester men indicted for illegal gambling and money laundering involving sports betting. Late Monday afternoon, News10NBC received a statement from Vanek and his lawyer through Vanek's agent, Steve Bartlett. "Representatives of the U.S. Federal Government have asked for my cooperation in an investigation. I am not the subject of any investigation or prosecution. I will fully cooperate with the U.S. Federal authorities in their investigation or in any proceedings arising out of it." In a phone conversation, Bartlett said Vanek is simply a witness in a federal case. He wouldn't say which one. Bartlett said Vanek is not the target of anything, he is not under suspicion and has done nothing wrong. Bartlett says Vanek was at the federal court building Monday to talk to someone about his role as a witness. http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S3510092.shtml?cat=565 Also: Nathan Paetsch — Vanek’s former Sabres teammate from 2005-10 — is reportedly “involved in a partnership” that owns the Marina Restaurant and Bar. According to the restaurant’s Facebook page, Paetsch had the Calder Cup on display at the restaurant last July after capturing it as part of the Griffins.http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/07/21/vanek-connected-to-federal-gambling-investigation/related/

sarsippius
Sports gambling is a horrible crime in Rochester...but if you're in Vegas, then its a family event. Oh the hypocrisy.
Samifan
I have a front row seat for this and the local media is all abuzz. The bar/restrauant in question was partially owned by former Sabre & Amerk Nathan Paestch. Guessing a lot of former Rochester/Buffalo players will show up on these wire taps. MILLLLLER! LolHere's the latest : http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S3511168.shtml?cat=565 Edited July 22, 2014 by Samifan

Podein25
I bet nothing comes of this. Giving three to one odds.I will take that bet and throw in a nice coconut-crusted halibut with a side of wonky-transmission-spiced Lumina if I lose.
