Howie58
Greetings: This wasn't posted yet. It is an interesting pick-up. I always like the guy's speed and attitude. http://www.csnphilly.com/hockey-philadelphia-flyers/former-flyer-darroll-powe-signs-phantoms You have to wonder if this is to strengthen the Phantoms or a "cheap" signing for future call-up? Best, Howie

TropicalFruitGirl26
we have a few contracts to spare..hexy could sign him in a new york minute if neededThis is what I was thinking.....not sure how hockey works, but in baseball, if a guy only has a minor league contract, it can be 'purchased' at any time, and be made into a Major League one.Hockey work the same? At any rate, the guy is a decent defensive bottom six guy.Won't do ANYTHING spectacular (although he was known as a PK specialist while with the Wild), but he also won't hurt you either with his play. Does all the basic stuff correctly and if paired with the correct linemates, can be a force in checking along the boards and jarring pucks loose from the opposition.Don't expect any scoring from the guy, but he does have pretty good overall quickness. Not a bad guy to have amongst the younger Phantom players and if it is allowed, have him 'purchased' up to the Flyers should they suffer an injury and need to move guys up in the line roles. Yes it doesn't have to be a two way deal either but another team could just come in and sign him as well to a NHL contract too. He is a solid bottom 6 role player with some decent speed and isn't shy to use his body. And he has Stanley Cup finals experience which is always a plus. canoli
Thanks Ron I always liked Powe - lots of hustle, hits hard, wonder if we'll get to see him in the O&B. Razor you're not saying a team can poach him tho right? Too bad Mr. Princeton never learned any moves, how to score. He's a fastfast skater but he's so straight-ahead it's like he has no creativity whatsoever. But with Hall gone maybe he slots into the 4th line with Rinaldo and ? - that could be fun seeing the bruising they put on the opposition. OccamsRazor
Razor you're not saying a team can poach him tho right? From my understanding since it's just a minor league contract yes they can, all they have to do is offer him a NHL deal.
Podein25
I was as big a supporter of Power as anyone but cannot find it in my heart to forgive him for the giveaway in our end that led to Kane's OT goal on Leighton.

The Quigster
I don't watch the "Hawks" much, but it seems like everybody give Kane a break in the "rough him up" dept.. Unlike the Ranger's treatment of poor Claudie in the playoffs!
Podein25
@JackStraw@@OccamsRazor Sorry for bringing back terrible memories. Yeah lots of people to blame - especially Lindros - for that goal, including the coaching staff for having a hot mess of a group of forwards out there against Chicago's most dangerous player. Powe gets the most blame (besides Lindros) because his only real job as a 4th line plugger - the only one that really matters at least - is to chip the bloody puck out. And he botched it. First he panicked. Then he threw it up the wall blind. Not up on the glass, not hard, just soft and easy right on the tape. Unacceptable. Even Lindros could have made that play! canoli
ancient history but wtf, let's relive it again! Aw c'mon Podes you can't put that on Powe. He made the right play, banged the puck hard up the wall (edit: sorry you're right, it wasn't hard up the wall...more like a pass to Campbell) but Campbell made the stop at the blue line. Kimmo tried to stay with Kane but Kane is Kane, got off the 90-degree angle shot that beats Sleepy Leaky Braindead Leighton. As far as I'm concerned nobody is to blame for that goal but the goaltender. What I didn't like about Powe on that play is what he does after Campbell has the puck, gets it to Kane. He just kinda floats in the slot and does nothing. Edited August 16, 2014 by canoli
Podein25
c'mon Podes you can't put that on Powe. He made the right play, banged the puck hard up the wall but Campbell made an excellent stop at the blue line. Kimmo tried to stay with Kane but Kane is Kane, worked it past him and got off the 90-degree angle shot that beat Sleep Leaky Braindead Leighton.Nobody is to blame for that goal but the goaltender. Period. End of discussion in my book.I'm not saying Leighton isn't to blame. But you are wrong about Powe's play. He threw the puck up the board blind to the spot where *he* normally would have been. It was a giveaway pure and simple. So he gets some of the blame.Edit: Lindros is also not off the hook. canoli
Ya I edited my post after watching it again - a giveaway for sure but the kind that happens quite a lot in hockey games. It really shouldn't have burned us so bad if Leighton had been awake. edit: and of course...Because Lindros. Podein25
@canoliNo worries buddy. Its ancient history anyway. Now Stickle - that still burns!
canoli
yeah the 2010 series the Hawks were just better, the Flyers were out of gas, couldn't score etc. but STINKLE not paying attention, that stings, even 30+ years later. "and thank you so much for bringing up such a painful subject. While you're at it, why don't you give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it? We're closed!" FreakinFlyersFan
Powe will be a good leader in the AHL and he's a good call up when Flyers have injures. Powe doesn't make stupid mistakes and is pretty decent on the PK.
