The Philadelphia Flyers will host the Washington Capitals in a Rookie Game scrimmage on Tuesday, September 16 at 3PM, according to general manager Ron Hextall.

The game will be held at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ.

The game will wrap up a five-day Rookie Camp that will precede the Flyers’ main training camp.  The Flyers have invited 27 players to the camp, most of whom are preparing for the upcoming season with their junior clubs or have completed their junior/collegiate careers and will be embarking on their first professional season this fall.

Expected attendees include first-round draft picks Scott Laughton, Samuel Morin and Travis Sanheim; goaltender Anthony Stolarz, defensemen Shayne Gostisbehere and Robert Hagg, and many other recent draft picks and signees.

@Podein25  He's had a world class team in front of him, (well, 13 more than 14) but failed when it mattered most. He let in some soft goals that deflated the team in front of him. I think he's got an interesting skill set, and the problems should be fixable. I like his frame and movement, that is half the battle.

In fairness, when he got to London his first year, he barely played any games prior to joining the Knights. Once he joined the Knights, he was played so much that he wore out when the OHL Playoffs were underway. The series against the Plymouth Whalers, he stole the show. By the time Barrie and the Memorial Cup tournament came around, he was gassed. As for the second year, missing all those games with the cut and then the 8 game suspension set him back and when he did play in the Memorial Cup tournament, his timing was off.

I'm a fan of Stolarz. He's got exceptional lateral movement, his glove hand is superb, he's getting much better with his stick handling and his rebound control has improved from when he first arrived in the OHL. He's also got a fantastic work ethic in that he's usually the first guy on the ice and the last guy to leave the ice and he's a stickler for his own performance in that he goes over tape with the goaltending coaches to find areas where he can improve his game. Bill Dark, the goaltending coach in London, has said on numerous occasions that Stolarz is the most athletically talented and work oriented guy he's ever had to coach and Dark thinks Stolarz is destined for greatness.

Stolarz is also a long term project. He's going to need two seasons in the AHL before he even sniffs anything at the NHL level. It's possible he gets the Tukka Rask treatment in terms of his development and that's certainly not a bad thing.

Good post, thanks for that.
