hf101 Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Although many players go on strict training regimes, Kessel told Toronto reporters Thursday that he spends most of his summer “living a normal life” by relaxing, golfing, hanging out with family and friends and fishing. He added that one of the highlights of his off-season was catching an 11-foot, 450-pound shark. “I don’t talk hockey or have anything to do with hockey in the summer,” Kessel explained. “I probably take a month off. I live in Florida in the summer, so I go down there and golf and fish and do that kind of stuff and get away, and then I’ll start working out again.” And does anyone wonder who Tim Leiweke was talking about when he said the Leafs lack character???
Podein25 Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Even at the end of the season, when every other player not named Byfuglien is starting to look gaunt, Kessel still looks fat.

If I am Carlyle, I have a four foot print out of that quote and tape it to the glass during practice. Then after practice is over, when players ask why is Phil doing suicide drills, Randy points to the print out.
jammer2 Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 There is no way Kessel is serious about his chosen profession. You can tell just by looking at him he will put anything into his body that tastes good. Lot's of time for that when your retired. Sure, cheat a bit over the summer, eat some deserts etc....but don't be eating cheeseburgers everyday, treat your body like a temple while you are making the big bucks, get the most out of it. Kessel seems like the type that is in it for the bucks and not the love of the game. If he could make millions doing something else, he would not even miss the game...kinda like JVR.....enjoy TO!!!
EDI-Flyer Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 when every other player not named Byfuglien is starting to look gaunt, Kessel still looks fat. Nearly spat my drink all over the screen... Thanks Pods!
Podein25 Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 @EDI-Flyer Hey, how did the whole referendum thing go? Whatever else you can say, it looked like one helluva party was had... Hope things are well with you.
yave1964 Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 What is it with Kessel and training camp? Last year he played Paul Bunyan on John Scott with his stick, this year he acts like the spokesman for a Florida tourist add. Most players in training camp just wanna go through camp uninjured, Kessel apparently wants attention....
jammer2 Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Did anyone happen to see Kessel's interviews at the start of training camp for the Leafs? What a big steamy pile of crap spewing out of that guys mouth. He came off looking like a spoiled brat. He bragged that there is one set of rules for himself and another set for the rest of the team.....LMAO....what a giant turd!!

EDI-Flyer Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 @EDI-Flyer Hey, how did the whole referendum thing go? Whatever else you can say, it looked like one helluva party was had... Hope things are well with you. All good here thanks... Fortunately I was out of the country in Slovakia on the day but from my point of view the right result (I had a proxy vote on my behalf) Certainly seems like there are a few bitter people who simply can't accept that not everyone thinks like they do but hey ho...
flyercanuck Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 @EDI-Flyer Tell them to move to Quebec.
EDI-Flyer Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 @flyercanuckBelieve me I had enough of the PQ nutters coming over to Scotland to show their solidarity... Same with the Catalan separatists too.Glad to see the back of them. The most amusing thing is when you see all the "Scottish clubs" around the world full of kilted nutters screaming for independence whilst choosing to have left the country of their birth. If you are that bothered then why leave the country in the first place... I could go on but perhaps this forum is not the appropriate place. Just to keep this semi on topic we do play hockey in Scotland too... # hockey related
flyercanuck Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 @EDI-Flyer Ya, IMO if youre not happy being part of Canada and you want a french speaking country, move to Haiti. And to stay on topic theres more than one guy on my hockey team that drinks scotch.
Podein25 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 And to stay on topic theres more than one guy on my hockey team that drinks scotch. Yeah, but how many eat haggis? I've started playing beer league again after a couple of years hiatus. Rust never sleeps....
mojo1917 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 And to stay on topic theres more than one guy on my hockey team that drinks scotch. I think you mean "whisky", scotch is a tape my friend. @EDI-FlyerMy Dah was all ready to be a PQ nutter about the referendum but then he fell in line with the clan chieftain and accepted that the more wise and cooler heads prevailed ...independence would be a 5-7 year detangling- reintegrating process that would cause more harm short term than could be reasonably amortized over the long term. I do not, however, relish the howling that will commence if the Brits don't make good with the autonomy pledges.
EDI-Flyer Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I do not, however, relish the howling that will commence if the Brits don't make good with the autonomy pledges. Well whether you just mean from your family or the wider community I agree with you on the point re autonomy. [Pedant hat on]However as a point of order I would say that anyone who lives in England, Scotland or Wales are "Brits" IE Citizens of Her Majesty's United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is the MP's and Houses of Parliament that have to deliver on the devolution promises.[Pedant hat off]
flyercanuck Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 @Podein25 Theres a gastropub here in town owned by a Scotsman. He changes his menu regularly but usually seems to incorporate haggis into a dish. I don't mind it.
flyercanuck Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 @mojo1917 I drink some whisky...scotch isn't one of them.
Podein25 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 @flyercanuck Haggis lollipops on orange marmelade BBQ sauce eh? I like the beer menu.
flyercanuck Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 @Podein25 The beer is all local micros and is everchanging.. He's nad haggis poutine, pie, haggis benedict....
Commander Clueless Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 If reports are to be believed, Phil Kessel is in the 3rd best shape on the team. So either he's been at the gym 24/7 since training camp started, or this is the worst team in history for fitness.

I figured maybe you were hanging down at the beach with Kessel munching on ham and pineapple..
