Nick Leddy is avaialble? should Flyers try to get him?

What are everyones thoughts on Nick Leddy from Chicago... he is an up an coming defenseman and on the market. Would you do a Laugton  plus for Leddy ? I know we are high on all our young dmen, but even if they make the NHL next season, they are not ready for a significant role yet. Leddy has a few years experience and is ready to take it to the next level. Maybe having Leddy and Del Z, suddenly helps our defense improve much quicker while we wait for our drafted defenseman to play major roles, because lets face it, are we gonna write off 2- 3 years waiting for our defenseman? We have good young guys, but none are coming in and  putting up Ray Bourque or Dennis Potvin numbers  any time soon and Morin isn't going to become Pronger in his first few seasons.

 

Lets be realistic, the defense we have now is substandard and defenseman take at least 2-3 yeas in the NHL if not longer to really be a factor. So no matter what is said by management, our defense is a huge question mark. I know Laugton is good, but we still need more defense more than another defensive center without a center postion open on the team. Leddy could step in an play some big minutes for us. I think Chicago would probably want more than Laugton ..

@RonJeremy  I would be patient, let our own d-men develop in their own due time. I'm against giving up Laughton because we don't know what we have. He could be an outright star, maybe a second line center, maybe a checker 3rd line type....but we know what Leddy is, he's a steady dependable 3-4 type, maybe a 5-6 type on a team with a solid defense. The risk does not equal the return. Our own defensive prospects will be better than Leddy eventually. I don't want to see Laughton become a great 2 way player who puts up 60-70 point seasons for another team just because we lacked patience.

 

  This particular trade proposal is not nearly as bad as some of Homer's shenanigans, trading young talent for aged forwards like VLC or Hawerchuck etc. At least Leddy addresses a real need. I like Leddy's game, but not enough to give up Laughton.

No he sucks........pass on him. Flyers are fine on D till the kids are ready i sure ain't giving up Laughton for him....i don't like Leddy sorry.
