Ryan has been rumored to be coming to the Flyers in the same way that for a decade St. Louis and Lecavalier (in his prime) were rumored to be going to the Canadiens, Last year he was moved back East, after the Senators lost Aflredsson they quickly dealt for Ryan, who was a mild disappointment with 23 goals and 48 points.Bobby+Ryan+p-HaTG-iUjcm.jpg

The Senators who have been struggling mightily money wise offered Ryan a 7 year, 49 million dollar extension. Ryan, who is scheduled to be an UFA at the end of the year turned them down.

I cannot see Ryan getting more money elsewhere, or a longer term, it seems to me that it is simply a desire on his part to get out of Ottawa while the getting is good and nothing more that kept him from accepting the deal.

Rumors are that the Sens have sent out feelers, letting teams know that Ryan can be had, they are near the cap floor and would need salary back in any deal. They are certain to get offers from other teams, Snipers such as Ryan do not grow on trees. And the thought of Ryan going up and down on the wing beside Giroux is an exciting prospect, he lit the lamp with regularity when paired with Getzlaf, he certainly should bounce back with Giroux setting him up.

So the question: do you get in the Bobby Ryan sweepstakes if/when the Senators decide to move him? Or do you wait until next July and hope to sign him then? Or do you have no interest in him at all?

I pass on Ryan. He want's some team to roll up the Brinks truck and I don't see him being worth it. He creates little on his own, needs a star center to really pile up pts...with the kind of money he wants, he should be independently wicked skill wise, capable of carrying a team....and he's not close to that type of player. He's a complimentary type of player, not a cornerstone you build around. Let somebody else destroy their cap.....and he's also pretty lazy, does not play with passion, even more reason to pass.

I see him as every bit as good of a player as a Vanek or a Mouslon, the two top free agent wingers from last year's crop. My personal opinion is if you can add him, without disrupting team chemistry or giving up too much, you should do it. Obviously you have to give up something to get something, as Occam said in another thread we were talking about the subject in, which got me on this idea of posting this, but as long as the cost is not too prohibitive he would look really good with the Flyers. As a pending free agent he is likely to bust his butt all year and do what he can to earn his salary.

He's at a low value at this point (at least relative to a few years ago after 4 straight 30+ goal seasons). I would definitely kick the tires and see what it takes to get a trade done, and what kind of contract he's looking for.

I would pass on an 8-year contract demand, and any trade that involves one of our young d-men.

@yave1964  I just don't trust him to earn his keep over the life of a long term contract. He's not a warrior, and his stats are all over the place. For a guy who want's more than 7 mill a year, I'd want some more consistency and a better work ethic. There was a reason USA left him off the Olympic roster.

This could be a buy low opportunity. Depending on his salary and contract length demands, and what the Sens want in return (VLC as a #2 and salary take back?), I'd definitely listen.

Ryan may simply want to prove himself this season and be in the driver's seat.

There is always the risk of a Byron Evans situation, but he may just decide to take that deal in the future.

Will they take VLC and Umberger for him? Oh and maybe Grossman? (Which would essentially mean throwing this season away since we're so short on NHL ready D men).

If not, we don't have much chance at digging up 7+million bucks next year.

Supposedly Ottawa was one of the places it made sense to send VLC.

Maybe they'll rethink? Probably not.

Gotta move VLC or UMberger for it to be anywhere near economically feasible cap wise.

It depends on what they want for him.....i'd give them Brayden Schenn for him and something else.

He really might just not want to play in Ottowa.

It certainly wouldn't surprise me.

The guy turned down 7 years at $7 million per...if he wants anything near that stratosphere....hell no!

I'm thinking he turned down Ottawa, not the money.

I'm thinking he turned down Ottawa, not the money.

That's my suspicion, too.  One never knows, of course, but it's very much possible he would come to a contender for the money Ottawa offered.

That been said, I am not sure I want him at this point.  I think there is enough roster spots for forwards on the Flyers team as of this moment.

If they take VLC as part of any trade then sure why not...

That said I don't give him max term and 7 mill per. 4-5 years tops which means that some other sucker can pay him when his performance drops off the edge and not us for a change...

I am not, nor have I ever been, interested in Ryan. Not for what we'd have to give up and not for what he apparently wants.

Let him remain someone else's problem.

He's listed as a RW, has he played on the left? We don't need another top-6 RW. It's worth kicking the tires, but I wouldn't go crazy trying to bring him in here.

Is it possible to trade Pronger, if another team needs to take on salary?  Would it even matter to the player (Pronger)?

I just assumed he comes around practices and workouts, and possibly coaches a little on the side, but that may not be the case.

Ted, as far as I know, injured players may be traded, as long as the team is aware of the inury. Though I imagine the league would frown on such a move in Pronger's case.

I thought the consensus was for all you JVR haters,Ryan is basically the same player? Who would you trade for Ryan? Luke Schenn?

Thats actually pretty funny and not that far from being accurate. The irony is both are NJ boys and the love affair with ryan has he is a "local" boy. Meanwhile, JVR is the jilted at the alter boy.

If I had my druthers, I take JVR back in a heart beat. I might eat my words in two or three years, but at this point, its a colossal loss on the Flyers part re: that trade.
