JackStraw Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/sports/flyers/Rosehill-Rosehill-wins-Flyers-speed-race.html “I’ve never done a full speed test like that before,” said Rosehill, who increased his quickness last year by doing drills with assistant coach Ian Laperriere. “I was surprised to be No. 1….but I’ve always prided myself in being a good skater for a guy in my role.” Inconceivable!
jammer2 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 @JackStraw HUH?? WAH?? WTF?? How in the holy hell is Rosehill of all players the fastest on our team....quick, delete this thread before the Pens fans see this!! If Rosehill can beat Giroux in a straight up race, I'll eat my boxing shorts!! I just do *not* get this....
JackStraw Posted September 21, 2014 Author Posted September 21, 2014 @jammer2 - I don't think Giroux is really all that fast. But other guys... Coburn, Voracek, Raffl... I am shocked, shocked I tell you!
flyercanuck Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Well at least theres finally a reason hes on the team...flimsy as it is.
hf101 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Ah great, ...now give Rosie a stick and a puck. When are they going to start practicing the shootout?
doom88 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I'm a bit surprised he beat Raffl, Read, and Rinaldo.
Podein25 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Fast. And handsome!Meanwhile, in Toronto Kessel has won the "fattest skater" - without even donning his skates.
TropicalFruitGirl26 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Well, Flyers fans, look at the bright side:Next time opposing fanbases mock the Orange n Black for having too many goons on the team, you can say, "Yea, but at least OUR goons are faster than yours". Or you can counter with, "If you think our goons are fast, wait till you see our OTHER guys!" Seriously....if only Derek Boogaard, formerly of the Wild and Rangers (RIP) had the sort of skating and speed Jay Rosehill apparently has, I am betting either Minny or NY would have had him play regular minutes even if just for checking purposes on a 3rd line and even see important PK time....even though he basically was a pair of fists on skates!
Podein25 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I honestly had no idea Rosehill could skate that well. I assume this was a no-puck drill. Because when he gets the puck on his stick, which admittedly isn't often, he slows down considerably I bet.
Samifan Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 When I first heard Rosehill was the fastest, I fully expected ......at getting hot fresh popcorn to Clarke,Holmgren and Snider to complete the sentence.Behold Jay Rosehill!

Because when he gets the puck on his stick, which admittedly isn't often, he slows down considerably I bet. That is a point.Straight line and/or non puck possession skate speed and actual game play speed WITH puck are two ENTIRELY different things. If one really thinks about it, it is this that separates true game speedsters like Marty St. Louis and Philly's own Claude Giroux, from guys who can skate well and fast enough, like Rosehill, but are questionable during actual in game situations where he would not only need to skate fast, but maneuver and make a play with the puck as well.
JackStraw Posted September 21, 2014 Author Posted September 21, 2014 For all you Rosey haters out there... choke on this, baby! http://video.flyers.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=595865
pilldoc Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Ah great, ...now give Rosie a stick and a puck. When are they going to start practicing the shootout? What's a shootout?

G has sneaky speed, rarely gets caught from behind on a break away....but I would have thought Read would have blown away Rosey in a straight ahead race. Very surprising.
