Why do the Flyers play so many Pre - Season Games?

First of all, the NHL Preseason is Much, Much, Much TOOOOOOOOOO long.  Two weeks should be long enough.

I don't know about the rest of the teams but the Flyers seem to over do it in the number of preseason games.   In this age of hockey, everybody comes to camp prepared. You don't have to get into shape. Most guys are skating before camp opens, so teams should only need a maximum of 4-5 games.

The Flyers have had 7 scheduled games not including an scrimmage against the Phantoms which started a 4 game stretch in 4 days.  It seems ridiculous to pull players from the Phantoms in these games just to field a roster when the organization has already determined where the majority of the players will play.

Teams like the Rangers, and Devils have 4 scheduled preseason games.  It makes sense to have several games scheduled right away to play all the players from prospect camp and the Flyers cap the first week or so but it seems after that these back to back to back games seem useless.   I might think more time spent practicing might be fair better as players actually spend more time with potential linemates.  If you ask the younger guys, they probably wouldn't say the same thing as many of the younger guys are fighting for a job. They're battling, trying to make a name for themselves. They probably don't mind playing every game. That's the mentality when you're younger, but then once it is determined that a player belongs in the AHL have more AHL preseason games.

Do I really care if Stortini is fighting for a job when we have Rosie?   The Flyers roster only had a couple of vacancies to fill 8 preseason games is over kill to make those decisions.

But the more and more preseason games the Flyers play the sloppier and lazier the pros seem to play, and to make it worse season ticket holders have to  pay for this.

that's for sure...it's been downhill since they beat the Devils...Coburn--Macdonald looked especially slow and uninterested last night and Mason didn't have a good night either.

The Flyers scheduled extra pre-season games to give the "Ice Guys" a chance to practice their routines and get ready for the regular season!

Seems like they need to think more about their local fans and get away from playing a so called home game in London no sense in it really...give the fans back their home game.

LOL!!! Good stuff as always Sami!

I get your meaning as far as team chemistry goes, but personally, after months of sensory deprivation, I'll gladly take as much action I can get and then beg for more. I'd much rather watch meaningless pre-season hockey than the World Cup finals!

The Pens did six... So I think the London game was an extra for you, otherwise you're in the middle of the pack. They can choose to play as many as nine.
